Aside from being a successful singer, Lovato, who has been open about her struggles with addiction and mental health, used her platform to launch a Mental Health Fund to help those struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interestingly, in 2020, the “Heart Attack” singer and Clarkson had an honest conversation about their mental well-being on an episode of “The Kelly Clarkson” show.

Starting on a sweet note, Clarkson began, “I love how open you are about mental health because I have the same problem, and I’ve had depression. I think a lot of people, especially in the creative world or just from childhood, you’ve been trained to move on and you can handle it.”

The TV personality continued, “Especially as a woman, it’s like, ‘Don’t let them see you sweat.’ I love that you’re open about that because not everyone is exposed to that kind of thing. And I think it’s good for your fans.”

Crediting Clarkson for her kind words, Lovato pointed out how the “Stronger” rider is her role model, helping to impact her life and career.

He said, “You’re like the first idol I ever had. I wouldn’t be the artist or the person I love to be so outspoken and vulnerable and fearless if I didn’t have you to look up to, so I’m grateful for that.”

“I saw you as my idol growing up. You’re fearless and brave and real as hell, you know? I love that about you. When I was younger, I always thought, ‘if I make it, I want to be like him because he’s genuine and he’s genuine,'” continued Lovato.

The singer-turned-actress explained, “I think everyone looks at us, like even if you’re over something, they’re like, ‘OK, he’s over it.’ I was like, ‘No, no, no it’s a daily effort in trying to be positive.’ It’s not something that’s a given like you just finish and you go to some magic therapy session and it’s over.”

The mother of two concluded by telling Lovato, “I think that’s an everyday thing that you do and an everyday thing that I do. It’s not easy to always have the spotlight on you and arrows pointed at you, especially when you’re vulnerable and you’re giving people more ammunition for all the trolls out there.”
