Demi Lovato Reflects On Life After Addiction Battle, Wants ‘A Family One Day’

Demi Lovato has had a pretty good career. Starting out as a child actor on “Barney & Friends” and quickly moving to the Disney Channel as a teenager growing up in front of the world, the actor/singer (who uses both the pronouns he and they/them) has been through a lot.

Recently, Demi celebrated her 30th birthday. After reaching this big birthday milestone, the actor/singer reflects on their lives and looks forward to the future.

On August 20, Demi Lovato turned 30, an age she never thought she would reach. The “Camp Rock” cast opened up to SPIN magazine, reflecting on their childhood acting and their battle with addiction.

Referring to the 30th birthday milestone, the “Heart Attack” singer said, “That’s something I thought was impossible to do. Even in a calm state, my depression was so strong that I didn’t think I would make it here today. But here I am.”

Now, after the actor has recovered and reached his 30th birthday, he is looking forward to the future, including the possibility of starting a family. “I’m in a new chapter in my life, and I don’t know what my 30s have in store for me, but hopefully a family one day,” they said.

The “Confident” singer is currently dating independent musician Jutes, who they say is “a really cool guy.”

Looking to the next chapter in their lives, Demi Lovato wants to really focus on themselves and take life slowly. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the actress said, “It feels like a door opening a new chapter in my life. Through that door I see things like taking time for myself to improve my spirituality, to go places I want to go that I’ve never been to.”

“Then, once I do that, take time to start a family, to raise children,” they continued, “Things that bring me joy outside of this industry because this industry is all I’ve known since I was little.”

Demi Lovato got her big acting break in 2002 on “Barney & Friends,” when they were just 10 years old. A few years later, they moved to the Disney Channel where they played the role of Charlotte Adams in the short series “As the Bell Rings.”

The actors are perhaps best known in the Disney Channel world for their roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie “Camp Rock” and the Disney Channel television series “Sonny with a Chance.”

Growing up literally in front of the whole world isn’t easy, and unfortunately, the “Melon Cake” singer learned it the hard way.

“Sometimes I have a big mouth,” they continued to tell the outlet. “As I get older, I try to learn to be more personal. I think I give too much insight to other people in my life, and I have to think, do people deserve it? I’m sure when I’m 35, my mouth will be glued shut because I’m tired of talking about myself. And I’m sure people are tired of hearing me talk about myself.”

“It hasn’t been a perfect journey,” continued the 30-year-old. “It was difficult to get to where I am today. The change I made—I honored all my emotions, not just the positive ones.”
