DeSantis challenges Trump to a one-on-one debate

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants to meet with former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.

“You know, maybe we can say since the former president didn’t come here, maybe he’s willing to do it with you and me,” DeSantis told Fox News’ Sean Hannity after the second GOP primary debate.

Hannity sparked a challenge from DeSantis by juxtaposing the packed atmosphere of Wednesday evening’s debate stage with an upcoming verbal battle between DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom in November.

Trump’s world doesn’t seem to agree with DeSantis’ incitement.

“Rob DeSanctimonious? The 5th place loser in New Hampshire? His miserable campaign was over. Good night, sweet prince,” senior Trump adviser Jason Miller told The Post.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung doubled down on the use of X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It appears that Ron DeSantis challenged President Trump to a one-on-one debate. Sorry, Ron. We’re not as thirsty and desperate as you or Gavin Newsom’s idiot partner,” he tweeted.

“I think he owes it to our voters to come and make that case,” DeSantis said. “Let’s do it right … a person deserves anything.”

Earlier in the debate, DeSantis took direct aim at Trump, lumping him in with President Biden, whom he deemed “missing in action.”

“You know who else is missing in action? Donald Trump. DC politicians are shutting down the American Dream with their reckless spending,” DeSantis echoed X, previously Twitter.

Trump skipped the second GOP debate as he did the first, pointing to his evaporating lead in the polls.

The 77-year-old former president has a 42.2-point lead over DeSantis, his closest rival in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

Instead, he delivered a speech in Detroit, near the center of the United Auto Workers strike.
