Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign has accused Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of scrubbing references to China from a government website promoting economic development in the Sunshine State.
Haley’s campaign claimed Enterprise Florida, a public-private partnership chaired by DeSantis and recently rebranded as Select Florida, deleted references to its Hong Kong office and efforts to recruit Chinese investment in Florida from its website a day after news reports detailed DeSantis’ alleged dealings. with US enemies.
“Ron DeSantis has been knee-deep in recruiting Chinese companies to Florida for years,” Haley campaign spokeswoman Nachama Soloveichik said in a statement.
“Now that he is running for president, he will go to great lengths to hide all the evidence. The more Ron DeSantis loses, the more he lies.”
As of Thursday, links to the Florida economic development group’s board of directors page lead to a “404 Page Not Found.”
The Haley campaign noted that “yesterday,” the same link took people to a page showing DeSantis, a 2024 White House hopeful, as chairman of Enterprise Florida’s board of directors.
Haley’s campaign says DeSantis has been “knee deep in recruiting Chinese companies to Florida for years.” AP The webpage showing DeSantis as the group’s chairman no longer exists.
The former South Carolina governor’s team pointed out that a 2020 report explaining why “Florida is an ideal business destination for Chinese companies” and a map showing Enterprise Florida’s Hong Kong office have also disappeared from the website.
“EFI Hong Kong leverages trade and industry fairs or investment forums to expand our network and explore trade and investment opportunities for Florida,” one line of the report read, according to Haley’s campaign, which could be viewed online Wednesday.
The 146-page report that lured Chinese investment to Florida is no longer on the Enterprise Florida website.
The Florida governor’s administration told Messenger that it removed “outdated information” from the revamped website and that the entity ended its relationship with a Chinese business earlier this year “after realizing that companies on the Hong Kong stock exchange had been infiltrated with investments from the Chinese military.”
The DeSantis campaign did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
