DeSantis invited to meet with 9/11 families in NYC to commemorate 22nd anniversary of terror attacks

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will meet with the families of 9/11 victims in New York City to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks Monday, The Post has learned.

The seven families invited Republican governor and first lady Casey DeSantis to meet them at the site of the attack to mark this year’s anniversary, a spokesman for DeSantis said.

Details of their Manhattan itinerary next week have not yet been released.

President Joe Biden will observe the date in Alaska with first responders and their families, according to reports.

DeSantis first gathered with 9/11 families at a Memorial Day barbecue at the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee after they reprimanded former President Donald Trump for hosting a Saudi Arabia-backed golf tournament that same weekend.

“It’s very unusual and nice that the governor of Florida invited us to his house,” Brett Eagleson, 37, told The Post at the time.

Eagleson was 15 years old when his father died while working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

He has denounced Trump’s ties to the Saudi-funded LIV golf enterprise and has thrown his support behind DeSantis.

Casey DeSantis also invited several family members to the first Republican debate last month.

The governor has repeatedly stated on the campaign trail that he joined the military because of the 9/11 attacks and routinely recounts his time serving in Iraq.

DeSantis is trying to strengthen his position in the GOP primary race, fending off former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as Trump continues to lead the pack.

Recent polls show Haley pulling even at 10% with DeSantis in the key state of New Hampshire.

Trump continues to outpace his opposition, recording 47% support in New Hampshire, according to a poll from NMB Research.
