DeSantis team downplays scrubbing of campaign events on website as candidate cancels talk show appearances

HAMPTON, New Hampshire — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ team on Sunday morning shrugged off questions about his website being removed from public events when the Republican candidate canceled an appearance on a national political talk show two days before the first primary of the 2024 presidential election.

In recent weeks, much of DeSantis’ public campaign has been organized by the Never Back Down PAC, which will invite him as a special guest, though his campaign has coordinated some as well.

As of Sunday morning, the PAC had only one event listed in New Hampshire and its campaign website — which had previously detailed its public appearances — was absent, sparking rumors on social media about the future of its 2024 bid.

DeSantis is still scheduled to hold a meet and greet in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday, according to his campaign. Although not listed on the website, his team issued media advisory money.

Campaign spox told The Post that the Manchester event was never listed on the campaign website and is still live.

Former President Donald Trump’s allies quickly latched onto DeSantis’ campaign event page to rub it in as a sign of the campaign’s lack of power.

Trump ally Laura Loomer, who has an extensive history of causing disruptions at DeSantis events, joined his campaign team, and spewed conspiracy theories, clearly predicted Sunshine State Republicans are getting ready to quit.

DeSantis is also scheduled to make appearances on several Sunday morning political talk shows. However it was canceled on Saturday.

“The media event was canceled due to scheduling issues and will be rescheduled,” said DeSantis campaign press secretary Bryan Griffin at X.

“The Governor will travel Sunday morning on the campaign trail and hold public events scheduled Sunday afternoon through Tuesday in NH.”

Ad tracker Media Buying and AdImpact has shown a dramatic drop in TV airing from DeSantis and his PAC since early January.

DeSantis has shifted many of his campaign resources to South Carolina and made a stop there Saturday, apparently eyeing the state as a way to regain traction in the 2024 GOP primary.

The South Carolina primary is scheduled for Feb. 24, which would give him a month to campaign there after New Hampshire.

Polls have painted a bleak picture for DeSantis in the Granite State, dominated by a battle between Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. He also fell behind in South Carolina.

Trump is up 50.3%, followed by Haley at 34%, and DeSantis at 6.3%, in the Granite State, according to the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.

Still, DeSantis continues to draw large crowds during his campaign events in New Hampshire — at least at the ones observed by The Post.

Florida’s governor has publicly insisted that his campaign is built for the long term.

When asked last week on a conservative radio show if he could continue his campaign until the end of March, DeSantis replied: “Oh, yes, 100%. We can do it.”

Meanwhile, Trump has asked DeSantis about his polling position and focused his attacks on Haley.

“You notice I haven’t mentioned Ron DeSanctiminous yet, because I think he’s gone,” Trump quipped at a rally in Manchester, before mocking the governor’s shoes.

In May when DeSantis launched his campaign, he was widely tipped to be the runner-up to Trump and had at least $150 million spent by his allies to support him, according to Federal Election Commission records.

DeSantis put on a strong showing in Iowa, but Trump ultimately swept the field, with a roughly 30-odd-point margin of victory.

DeSantis edged out Haley for second place in the caucus.

The New Hampshire primary will take place on Tuesday.
