April Mahoney was so desperate to find her missing fiancé, Clayton McGeeney, that she took it upon herself just after 9pm on January 9th.
He pounded to no avail for 10 minutes on the door of the Kansas City, Missouri, rental owned by Jordan Willis, where McGeeney and his friends were last seen two days earlier.
Then he broke in through a basement window, yelling to see if anyone was in the house, a relative told The Post.
Next he walked upstairs, looked out the big back window and saw a ghastly table on the snow-covered terrace.
Mahoney first saw the frozen body of a man, David Harrington, sitting upright in a lawn chair.
He was so distraught that he didn’t immediately notice that his fiance was also dead on the ground, alongside a third man, Ricky Johnson, who was also dead.
“April saw David and he was completely panicked and could barely breathe and she called the police,” Clayton’s uncle, Jim McGeeney told The Post.
“The police showed up within minutes and Jordan opened the door without a problem, wearing his boxers and holding an empty wine glass.”

Since then, it has been a mystery how McGeeney, 36, Harrington, 37, and Johnson, 38, died simultaneously in a snowy backyard while Willis, their host, a 38-year-old HIV research scientist, said he had slept for 48 years. hours and didn’t know his friends had expired in full view of the house, only getting deeper.

The toxicology reports have not been released publicly by Kansas City Police, but several grieving relatives were briefed on their contents, a family member told The Post.
Two family members told News Nation that the body contained three times the amount of fentanyl needed to kill a person.
But friends and family of the dead man say many questions remain unanswered, especially about Willis. More than one person said it sounded like the TV series “Breaking Bad” come to life.

Willis has a PhD from Vanderbilt University. As an HIV vaccine researcher, he works at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative’s Neutralizing Antibody Center in La Jolla, California, and is from his native Kansas City.
His academic resume includes 55 published papers – five times the academic output of former Harvard president Claudine Gay – and an award from the Scripps Consortium for HIV/AIDS for his contributions to HIV vaccine development.
But his dead friends — they all met at Park Hill High School, a mile away — had more blue-collar jobs: McGeeney worked in construction and Harrington was a flooring contractor.

Several friends and family members have commented to each other and the media that Willis may have cooked something extra in the drugs the man took that night. A source close to the family disputed that, speaking to Fox News Digital.
Willis was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor DUI in 2011 in Tennessee, according to public records — not the mark of a Midwestern Walter White — and has no further criminal record.
“The mad scientist’s agenda is completely ridiculous,” the source said. “The fact that he’s a scientist is irrelevant.”
But not everyone is convinced.

“A group of people called Clayton’s sister and told her that Willis had been known as ‘The Chemist’ in high school,” Jim McGeeney told The Post.
“They said he would go to parties and make people feel comfortable with his enhanced drugs. I don’t know if he made something up that night or not. The police will not tell us anything.”

A fifth man, Alex-Lee Weamer, arrived at the home about 7 p.m. and told police when he left at 12:01 a.m. all the men were up and watching reruns of “Jeopardy!”
Willis, whose story changed slightly when told by his attorney, John Picerno, claimed he fell asleep around 12:30 a.m. while his friends were still there. At one point he allegedly saw them leave. Picerno did not respond to repeated requests for comment from The Post.

In the early morning hours of January 9, both Mahoney and Johnson’s mother Norma Chester texted Weamer-Lee asking where the man was. Weamer-Lee then messaged Willis via phone and Facebook but he never seemed to respond.
That night at about 7 p.m., the man’s close friend, Dakota LaTier, knocked on Willis’ door for about 20 minutes with no response.
Then Mahoney arrived two hours later, saw the deceased’s two vehicles out front — and knocked on the door himself before breaking a small basement window, gaining access to the backyard and making his fatal discovery.

He called the police, who arrived 10 minutes later. This time, Willis immediately opened the door. He was briefly handcuffed but released without charge; police said there was no evidence of foul play.
Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner for New York City, who has investigated many high-profile deaths, told The Post that it’s unlikely that three people who took the drug died at the same time “but it wouldn’t be unusual for three people to pass out at the same time.” The same.”

“After the shocking deaths of three close friends in very tragic circumstances, Jordan realized that he had a problem with addiction,” the source said, without elaborating on its nature.
“He immediately checked himself into rehab after vacating his home and putting his belongings into storage.”
Jim McGeeney said that Willis moved out of the rental, which was reportedly owned by his parents, the day after the body was found. His beloved rescue pit bulls, Daisy and Sadie, may be with his parents all the time.
“I don’t know about him but these people (died) are not addicts,” he said. “They are not drug addicts with needle marks in their arms.

Fentanyl has killed more than 850 people in the nine-county Kansas City area since 2018, the Kansas City Star reported late last year.
Jim McGeeney pointed out that on Jan. 8, as the dead man apparently lay frozen in the backyard, a 38-year-old Kansas City man and his 31-year-old partner were arrested on drug trafficking charges.
Police found more than 105 grams of fentanyl — enough to kill 52,000 people — along with supplies used to package and distribute the drug in their suburban home, according to a news release.
“It’s very sad,” McGeeney said. “I hope people know that if they’re going to use drugs like this, they’re going to at least buy one of those test kits to see if the cocaine has been mixed with fentanyl.
“Three families have been torn apart forever because of this.”
