A disgraced Alabama priest who fled to Italy with an 18-year-old woman over the summer is now married to the teenager — as an archbishop revealed Wednesday that the Vatican may move to formally remove him from the priesthood.
Alex Crow, a 30-year-old Catholic priest, married a young woman who is a 2023 high school graduate, according to a marriage certificate filed in Mobile County Monday.
He just turned 18 in June, the document states.
The teenager attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High, where Crow sometimes visited theology classes, according to reports.
The couple’s affair came to light when authorities learned of a love letter she received from Crow on Valentine’s Day when she was still a student.
Crow and the woman traveled to Europe over the summer before returning to the US earlier this month, AL.com reported.
Crow, already hanged, may have given his last sermon, Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi signaled this week.
“The latest news about Crow’s civil marriage only confirms the Archbishop’s judgment. Archbishop Rodi expects that the Vatican will eventually depose Alex Crow,” read a statement from the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Rodi, in an earlier statement, condemned the spiritual leader and said his actions were “totally unbecoming of a priest.”

“He has been informed by the archbishop that he can no longer exercise his ministry as a priest, or tell people that he is a priest, or dress as a priest,” he said.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said over the summer he believed “there was some grooming that was done” between Crow, who was ordained in 2021, and the teenager, given their age difference.
But the county’s district attorney announced earlier this month that the investigation into criminal misconduct had been closed, according to reports.
District Attorney Keith Blackwood said the young woman met with prosecutors and refused to answer any questions.
