Distressing new video shows Patriots fan struck in the head in fatal confrontation

Heartbreaking new video has emerged of a Patriots fan and father of two getting into a physical altercation with a Dolphins fan at Gillette Stadium — just before he was ejected.

Dale Mooney, 53, of New Hampshire, was seen wearing a Patriots jersey as he inserted himself into the 300-strong crowd at the stadium during Sunday’s game, footage broadcast by WCVB.

During the violent struggle, the 6-foot-3 Mooney was seen hit in the temple and fell.

The person who launched the shot was not clearly visible.

“I just saw movement in the crowd that really showed that there was some physical altercation going on and some people were trying to break it up, some people were trying to, you know, get away from it,” Keith Noonan, who was attending the game with his son, told the outlet that.

“My son was quite surprised by this. I was also moved,” he added.

Other witnesses said two groups of fans had been involved in a verbal confrontation shortly before the tragic incident, which happened at about 11 p.m.

EMTs performed CPR on Mooney, who never regained consciousness.

“That’s where we got a first-hand look at these heroes doing everything they could to try to save this man’s life,” Noonan told WCVB.

Mooney was rushed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead around midnight.

Another fan, Devyn Kirwin, said he was “shocked” by the fatal incident during his first Patriots game.

“Especially to know that it happened right behind me and there’s not much I can do about it,” he told NBC 10. “Everybody in that section had to evacuate.”

In a statement, Gillette Stadium said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Dale Mooney, a lifelong Patriots fan and 30-year season ticket member, who passed away while attending a Patriots game last Sunday night.”

“We continue to work with local authorities to assist them in their ongoing investigation. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Dale’s family and to all those grieving his loss,” he added on Tuesday.

Authorities have not said whether Mooney’s death was directly related to the fight. Autopsy results are pending.

The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said no charges have yet been filed.

Massachusetts State Police are leading the investigation.

Mooney’s grieving wife, Lisa, described her late husband as a “good father” to their two grown children and said that “it took a lot to get him mad. He had the patience of a saint.

“I don’t know what happened,” he said, adding that he was confident the footage would show Dale didn’t throw a single punch.

“I just feel numb. I can’t believe this is true,” Lisa told WCVB.
