On January 3, 2024, she was allegedly shot dead by her hotelier boyfriend Abhijeet Singh in a room at the City Point Hotel in Gurugram. According to some sources, Abhijeet Singh had shot him dead during an argument over his mobile phone password. After checking the CCTV footage, the local police found that at around 11.45pm on 3 January 2024, Abhijeet was seen carrying something wrapped in a blanket from the hotel room which was assumed to be Divya’s body. The body was then thrown into a blue BMW car by the hotel owner and two other men named Balraj and Ravi. According to the local police, Divya had taken some obscene pictures of Abhijeet and tried to blackmail him. According to some reports, he had extorted money from her to meet her legal expenses and support her household; he allegedly spent Rs. 6 lakh from Singh while in a relationship with him. When Abhijeet asks her to give her phone password and delete the photo, she refuses to do so after which Abhijeet shoots her. Meanwhile, Divya’s family members filed a complaint against Sandeep Gadolia’s family members for killing Divya as she was involved in Sandeep’s fake encounter. According to the Mumbai Police, in 2016, he tipped off Sandeep to the Haryana Police after which Sandeep was shot dead in a fake encounter at a hotel in Mumbai. In 2016, he was arrested in the fake encounter of Sandeep and after being in jail for about seven years, he was released on bail in 2023.
