Dog dubbed ‘Cheeto’ rescued after three days with head stuck in bucket of cheeseballs

A dog nicknamed “Cheeto” was rescued after wandering for three days with a container of cheese balls stuck in his head — and he’s now looking for a forever home, according to a Michigan animal shelter.

A good Samaritan picked up the emaciated dog, who had no food or water while trapped in a plastic bucket, and brought him to Last Stop Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in Carleton — about 35 miles southwest of Detroit, the Detroit Free Press first reported .

“This puppy has been on the run — we don’t know how long — but we know he’s had a jug on his head for three days,” Tom Walsh, who owns the shelter with his wife, said in a Facebook video on Sunday. .

“He might be right up to the point,” he added.

Cheeto, who appears to be a Great Pyrenees and German shepherd mix, is about 60-70 pounds underweight, Walsh said. It seems that he is still young in the estimate of 18 months.

The shelter posted a video online showing the dog agitated when he first arrived at the shelter, clearly confused behind a foggy container of Utz Cheese Balls covering his head but trusting his rescuer.

Using a pair of hedge shears, they were able to carefully cut through the container and free the dog, the video shows.

“Thats it!” Walsh exclaimed. The shelter gave him food and water which he immediately gulped down with gusto.

“He seems OK, right now,” Walsh said later. “You can see his ribs, but he’s a great kid.”

The dog needs a name as he will be living with the Walshes. Walsh suggested “Jughead” before they settled on a Cheeto — an homage to the snack that got him hooked in the first place.

In a follow-up video post on Monday, the Walshes said Cheeto seemed to know some basic commands like sit.

Most of his fur coat has been shredded and he may have a number of health problems he’s dealing with from worms to carbon monoxide poisoning, they said.

The rescue has launched a fundraiser to help cover Cheeto’s health costs while they look to find him a forever home.
