Dog stolen months ago reunited with owner after 40-mile police chase ends in crash, shooting

A stolen dog was reunited with its owner after a 40-mile police chase with two suspects – which ended in a police-involved shootout after they crashed into a 7-Eleven.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado were chasing a possible stolen vehicle that was driving recklessly and refusing to stop around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

During the pursuit, the suspect fired at police and intentionally sideswiped two other vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies managed to install road spikes and the driver intentionally drove the car into the 7-Eleven. A clerk and a customer inside the store were both uninjured, police said.

As deputies converged on the vehicle, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Kyle Williamson, pointed a gun at officers and refused to follow orders, prompting them to open fire and hit him multiple times.

He was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A female passenger, Hannah Woolard, 37, was not injured and was also taken into custody.

After the accident, Kaddie Rima and her sister-in-law Carly Rima happened to be in the area and noticed a dog, named Major, sitting behind a convenience store near some railroad tracks, KDVR reported.

They were able to coax the dog into their car and take it to a local vet who scanned its chip and returned it to its owner in Thornton – where the police chase began.

“For his owner’s sake, he would never have thought this is how he got his son back,” Carly Rima told the outlet.

“He had an accident. He is shooting,” he said.

Major has been reported missing since March.

“This sweet French mastiff mix was stolen in March by the same person who was entrusted to watch him while he was out of town,” Rima wrote on the GoFundMe page, raising money for the dog’s readjustment costs.

“He blocked his phone, and stayed away and he never saw Major again. He hoped and prayed that he would become a vet, where they would see that the dog was listed as stolen on the microchip,” she said, adding that the owner had been bottle-feeding him since he is still small.

Rima said in the post that the male suspect identified by the police is the man Major’s owner said stole the dog.

The Sheriff’s Office told KDVR they could not comment on any possible dog contact until Monday.
