They fight like big cats and dogs.
Shocking video shows a pet dog named Holly Jolly being attacked by a mountain lion in her California yard — then fighting to live another day.
The 3-year-old schnauzer was seen on Ring camera footage walking out for a bathroom break in La Verne around 9 p.m. Saturday when the cougar suddenly appeared.
Holly Jolly stood guard as the furious predator approached — suddenly trying to bolt only for the wild animal to pounce and pin the dog in its jaws.
“We heard screaming and my husband said, ‘Is that Holly?'” one of the owners, identified only as Nicole, told KTLA.
“I said, ‘No, I think that’s television,’ and he said, ‘No, I think that’s Holly.'”
After noticing horrifying howls and cries coming from their backyard, Nicole and her husband, Steve, began yelling to try to scare the mountain lion away from their 93-pound pet dog.

“As soon as I heard how intense the battle was, I was like there was no way out,” Steve said. “I imagined like a skunk or something here that he was playing with, so I went in and got a gun.”
The horrific attack, which lasted only about a minute, was the first time a mountain lion had approached their family, the couple said, even though their gated community is teeming with wildlife including bears, coyotes and cobras.
Holly was taken to the vet and treated for puncture wounds, scratches, and injuries that required stitches but her family says she is recovering well.

“She enjoys all the extra love, all the extra treats, all the extra attention,” Nicole said. “He loves it now.”
The family shared a video of the alarming attack to warn neighbors of the danger.
“We want to let all our neighbors know that this thing is out and brave enough to jump within a few meters and attack a dog almost the same size,” Steve said.
Now, Steve says he plans to accompany Holly to the backyard at night to make sure their pets stay safe.
