During the Besinger interview, Lundgren also talked about how he got a cancer diagnosis in 2020. He said, “In 2020, I came back to Sweden and I had acid reflux, I didn’t know what it was so I did an MRI. They found there were several more tumors around the area.”
When doctors told “The Expendables” actress that they had found a larger tumor in her heart, she quickly recovered. He said, “At that point I started to feel that this was something serious. The surgeon called me and said it had grown. It’s too big. It has grown to the size of a small lemon.”
Lundgren explained that when doctors gave him a timeline of 2 to 3 years, he knew he didn’t have long. He added, “I could tell in his voice he thought it was lacking. I think that’s for sure.”

Lundgren also opened up to Besinger about his suspicions that steroid use contributed to his cancer battle. He shared that he used steroid treatments “back in the ’80s, ’90s” but wasn’t sure if they actually had “something to do with cancer.”
The “Black Water” star said, “I think about it, you always think you’ve made a mistake. I think there may be a connection between testosterone therapy and cancer. I used steroids when I was young, on and off for maybe ten years. Depends on the kind of film I’m making.”
Emma, the new Mrs. Lundgren, also talks to Besinger about how cancer affects her husband’s body. He said, “His mouth hurts so much, his hands hurt and he can’t eat anything. It’s a struggle, he’s losing weight.” He continued, “We realized it was much worse than we thought, they started talking about tumors in the lungs, the stomach, the spine, outside the kidneys.”
