Donald Trump Jr. drawing a line in the sand for her father in the veepstakes: no Nikki Haley.
The former president’s son is throwing cold water on the notion that former President Donald Trump would choose his former UN ambassador as a running mate. Trump Jr. insisted on flexing his influence to make sure Haley didn’t get the job.
“I’m not going to have it and I’m going to work hard to make sure that doesn’t happen,” he told Newsmax’s Eric Bolling in a recent interview.
“Nikki Haley wants endless war. He is an establishment puppet in Washington, DC. He is the new favorite candidate of the billionaire class because they want control— not unlike academia and Harvard and use their billions to exert influence.”
Haley has surged in the 2024 GOP primary polls in recent weeks, coming within four points of Trump in a recent American Research Group poll.
He served as Trump’s U.S. ambassador to the U.N. from 2017 to 2018. Amid his poll surge, there have been some grumblings about him becoming his vice president, including from former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ campaign has thrown it into the VP conversation, recently launching a website for Trump-Nikki 2024.

In recent weeks, Trump has asked some of his confidants for their opinions on Haley’s tenure as vice president, CBS reported.
Haley has played down speculation about her vice presidential aspirations, insisting that, “I’m not running for second.” Moreover, he has criticized Trump, saying that “chaos and drama” follow him.
Trump Jr. take note of Haley’s rise in the polls.
“Ron DeSantis has proven that he doesn’t have what it takes to be on that stage. He embarrasses himself that way,” he surmised. “He is now the preferred candidate.
Her sister-in-law Lara Trump has expressed openness to the prospect of a Trump-Haley ticket.

“Crazier things have happened,” he previously told Newsmax. “I will never say never to Donald J. Trump.”
Trump Jr. wasn’t the only MAGA star to voice her frustration with such tickets.
“MAGA will revolt if Nikki Haley is given training in the incoming Trump administration,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) predicted on X earlier this month.
“He represents the last wing of the neocon establishment American Republican Party that we are completely done with.”
The Post reached out to Haley’s campaign for comment.
Nationally, Trump leads the 2024 GOP pack followed by DeSantis and then Haley, according to the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.
Trump has been tight-lipped about who he will choose as his running mate, although he previously clashed with former Vice President Mike Pence.
Haley and DeSantis are set to square off in a CNN debate next month ahead of the Iowa caucuses on January 15, 2024.
Trump’s relatives appear to have significant influence on such decisions. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie claims Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, squandered his chance to get a top gig in his administration.
