Donald Trump’s $355M GoFundMe Stalls At $1.3M After A Month Amid Legal Battles

It’s been a month since Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters began donating to GoFundMe to help the former president pay his huge legal bills, mainly stemming from his attempted fraud in New York City.

Shortly after Judge Arthur Engoron slapped the former president with a $355 million fine on February 16, MAGA fan Elena Cardone created a fundraiser with the goal of raising the amount Trump needed.

While the fundraiser started strong, it has slowed drastically, with fewer donations coming in while Trump’s bills have increased due to weekly interest.

As of this writing, the Trump GoFundMe has reached $1,354,790 from nearly 24,000 MAGA contributions. Unfortunately, this is a far cry from the $355 million goal set by Elena Cardone, wife of real estate mogul and multi-millionaire Grant Cardone.

It’s not clear why the Trump GoFundMe was stopped despite a strong start by raising over $1M in a week. However, the former president, who is currently campaigning for re-election, has yet to publicly acknowledge the GoFundMe launched on his behalf.

Trump’s legal bill is also rising quickly. The initial $355 million fine continues to accrue statutory 9% annual interest on more than $600,000 each week unless the business operator can post bond for the full amount.

Elena wrote about Trump’s fundraising: “This is more than a legal fund; it is a clarion call to all patriots to rally to the defense of a man who never hesitated to defend us.”

He added, “It’s about showing that when one of us is targeted for standing up for the values that make America great, he doesn’t stand alone. We stand with him, shoulder to shoulder, ready to support, defend, and oppose a system that threatens to undermine the foundations of our republic.

This achievement is a testament to your generosity, support and belief in our efforts. Every donation, share, and word -words of passion have brought us to this moment, and for that, we are very grateful.”

Elena then assured MAGA fans that she was committed to making sure the cash earned reached former President Trump.

He said: “We are in communication with President Donald Trump’s team to ensure he can and will receive the funds raised. It is important that we navigate this process carefully and in accordance with the law, and we appreciate your patience while we work out these details.”

Elena added, “We want to be clear about the purpose of using the funds obtained. Every dollar will be used only to cover fines related to the New York civil fraud case, its appeal and any related expenses.”

GoFundMe Says Fundraiser Didn’t Violate Its Policies

Donald Trump Is 'Absolutely Confident' He Will Be ReelectedMEGA

Immediately after news of MAGA’s launch of a GoFundMe hit the headlines, there were calls for it to be shut down.

Several individuals took to social media to contact GoFundMe, saying the fundraiser violated their policies. Some even shared screenshots of the company’s terms of service in an attempt to draw attention to their complaints.

In response to the statement, Jalen Drummond, director of public affairs at the company, told news week, “This fundraiser is currently in our terms of service.”

This means the fundraiser will continue, allowing more MAGA supporters to raise their funds for the embattled billionaire and business mogul.

follow News WeekTodd Landman, a professor of political science at the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham, revealed that Trump will have to find other ways to raise the money needed to pay the fine for his attempted fraud in New York.

“The GoFundMe solution is always going to be a small effort compared to the amount needed,” Landman told the news outlet.

The professor noted that while Trump’s campaign will receive a significant boost in support due to his strong results in the primary election, it will not affect the GoFundMe fundraiser.

Landman added, “[Trump] does not appear to currently have the liquidity to settle damages from its civil case, which may require the liquidation of some of its assets under relatively unfavorable terms. Campaign funds can be used to pay legal fees, but not legal damages, so he needs a plan that goes beyond relying on crowdfunding through platforms like GoFundMe.”

After the February 16 verdict in his New York fraud trial, Trump used his Truth social media platform, Truth Social, to abuse Judge Engoron and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

He called Engoron “crooked” and labeled James a “corrupt” person for what he described as a “witch hunt.”

The 77-year-old added that the decision was an “un-American judgment on” him, his family, and his “big business,” claiming that “radicals are doing everything they can to kick” him.

In addition to the trial in New York, Trump is also fighting his defamation trial against former columnist E. Jean Carroll, in which he was ordered to pay $83.3 million.

The billionaire has now secured a $90 million bond to cover the defamation judgment and filed a notice to appeal the ruling.
