Former President Donald Trump has been banned from the Colorado presidential ballot ahead of his 2024 re-election bid.
This is reportedly the first time in history that a presidential candidate has been disqualified under section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
In the meantime, the Colorado Supreme Court has stayed its decision until the US Supreme Court delivers what could be a historic ruling on the case.
Donald Trump Has Been Banned From Colorado State Ballots

According to reports, Trump’s chances of running for president have been severely damaged following a recent court ruling in Colorado, which banned the name of a presidential candidate from appearing on the state’s ballot.
The highest court in Colorado overturned the decision of a district court judge, who found Trump inciting rebellion for his involvement in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, but insisted that he could not be disqualified from voting because it was not clear that the provision was intended to be used for the presidency.
follow CNBC, the court wrote in its 4-3 decision, “The majority of the court held that President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Thirteen of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.”
The court added, “Because he is disqualified, it would be a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Colorado Secretary of State to list him as a candidate in the presidential primary.”

The court delayed its decision until January 4, or until the US Supreme Court rules on the matter. Before this development, Trump’s lawyers promised to immediately challenge any disqualification of the former reality TV star in the US Supreme Court, which has the final say on constitutional disputes.

The majority on the Supreme Court later noted that they did not reach their “conclusion easily.”
“We are concerned about the magnitude and weight of the question that is now. We are also mindful of our duty to apply the law, without fear or favour, and without being swayed by public reaction to the legally mandated decisions we reach,” they added. “We are also aware that we are traveling in uncharted territory, and this case presents some first impression issues.”
If Trump’s ban stands, he won’t be able to compete for Colorado’s ten electoral votes in the Electoral College, which elects the president every four years.
Courts in other states, such as Michigan and Minnesota, have rejected similar suits seeking to ban Trump’s name from appearing on those states’ presidential ballots.
Keep in mind that all justices on the Colorado Supreme Court are appointed by Democratic governors.

Following the Colorado state Supreme Court’s decision to bar Trump from the ballot, a spokesperson for the former president’s campaign released a statement condemning the decision.
Steven Cheung said, per CNBC“Unsurprisingly, the all-Democrat-appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, upholding a Soros-funded left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in the election on Crooked Joe Biden’s behalf by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and removing the right of Colorado voters to vote for their preferred candidate.”
He labeled the court’s decision “totally flawed,” stating that “we will immediately file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this highly undemocratic decision.”
Cheung added, “We have full confidence that the US Supreme Court will soon rule in our favor and finally put an end to this un-American suit.”
The presidential election is expected to be held next year on November 5.
