CBS News reports that the rain will continue between 3 pm on Sunday and 3 am on Monday morning, leading to the possibility of six to ten inches of rain. San Bernardino and Riverside Counties have issued evacuation orders, while Orange County received evacuation warnings.

The Los Angeles Unified School District and California State University, as well as several other schools, canceled classes on Monday amid the storm, although Disneyland was reportedly still open, where some wore ponchos and attended attractions in the rain.

On Sunday afternoon, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria told CNN’s Jim Acosta that he was concerned about possible power outages from the wind and flooding. “We are not used to this level of precipitation, in general. Certainly not in the middle of summer,” he said, adding, “We’re not built for this kind of rain. With what we expect, it might cost us.”

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hilary had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph at about 2 p.m. local time and was about 115 miles south-southeast of San Diego. Under nine million people, including downtown Los Angeles, are under a flash flood warning that is expected to continue through Sunday night.

While many had expected the hurricane and the rainy weather, no one expected the earthquake that shook Southern California during the hurricane. On Sunday afternoon, the US Geological Survey recorded a 5.1 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter was in Ojai, between Santa Barbara and Ventura.

Fortunately, there were no initial reports of injuries or structural damage. Many took to social media to discuss the hurricane and earthquake, including “Stars Are Blind” singer Paris Hilton, who tweeted, “Did anyone feel the earthquake?”

“It was a good shot and then it shook. I didn’t feel any aftershocks though and that was surprising. My little chihuahua needs to be entertained,” commented one fan. “I hope everyone is safe in California. Your safety is paramount and in the midst of the chaos caused by the earthquake, I hope you are all feeling ok. God bless. We’re thinking of you California,” another follower wrote as more fans encouraged her, and everyone in California, to stay safe!
