Dr. Anthony Fauci deserves to go to prison over ‘dishonesty’ on COVID-19 origins: Sen. Rand Paul

Dr. Anthony Fauci “should be in jail” for mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic and making “the worst decision ever made by a public health official in the history of time” about the origins of the deadly outbreak, Sen. Rand Paul claimed Sunday.

Paul, a Kentucky Republican and ophthalmologist, has repeatedly clashed with Fauci over the wearing of masks, coverings and other emergency measures ordered and recommended by the then-director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

“History should judge him as a disabled person who made one of the worst decisions in the history of public health — in the entire history of the world,” Paul said of the former White House chief medical adviser during an interview on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable.”

The senator tore into Fauci’s “slip,” blaming him for the research done at the Wuhan, China lab, which Paul believes sparked the virus outbreak.

“For his cheating, frankly, he should be in jail,” Paul told WABC host John Catsimatidis. “Do you think the scientific knowledge gained from this research is worth the death of 20 million people?”

The Government Accountability Office released a report in June 2023 that found the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had contributed more than $1.4 million to Chinese research institutions between 2014 and 2019 despite serious biosafety concerns, including at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Fauci previously denied in testimony to Congress that the NIH had funded risky for-profit research at laboratories in Wuhan, the area where the outbreak began in late 2019.

Paul said he was surprised that Democrats still considered the country’s former infectious disease chief a medical messiah and protected him as a “symbol of big government.”

“He was never in charge,” the senator said.

The chairman of the committee, Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), said he was surprised how often Fauci said he did not remember the results or the conditions during the early part of the pandemic that killed 1.1 million Americans.

Paul blasted 83-year-old Fauci for not being able to answer the question more than 100 times.

“A man who is smart enough to think that he can shut down schools, shut down the economy, force everyone to get vaccinated, including children, including people who have already had COVID, including the military – we have mandates everywhere, and he all for them – yet he doesn’t remember how the decision-making process or the science to back this up,” Paul said Sunday.

He poked Fauci for saying he approved all the research at the Wuhan lab but didn’t read it.

“It looks like the virus came from a laboratory. But the lab could only work because the US funded it and Anthony Fauci approved it,” said Paul.

“This is probably the worst decision a public health official has ever made in the history of time.”

Fauci could not be reached for comment.

During House testimony last week, Fauci spoke of a “new definition” of “operational” gain-of-function research, a phrase that often describes experiments that make viruses more contagious and virulent.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) told reporters afterward that Fauci had referred to her definition of “operation” when discussing a previous high-profile fight with Paul over the topic at the 2021 hearing.

A House subcommittee is also investigating Fauci’s influence on the US intelligence community about the origins of the outbreak after a whistleblower claimed the NIAID director secretly visited CIA headquarters in an effort to “influence” analysts who were later unable to determine whether SARS-CoV-2 leaked from the lab. or transmitted from animals to humans.

Fauci declined to answer The Post’s questions last week about the whistleblower allegations when he arrived for his interview. He also did not stop talking when he left the interview room last Monday evening.
