He was born into a Dawoodi Bohra Muslim family.
While in college, he met Bollywood actress Aditi Gowitrikar who was his junior in college. Soon, they became friends and fell in love with each other. Dr. Muffazal and Aditi’s parents opposed their marriage because of different religions. Despite all opposition, the couple married in both Hindu and Muslim wedding ceremonies. Aditi changed her religion to marry her long time boyfriend Dr Muffazal and changed her name to Sarah Lakdawala. They dated for almost seven years and in 1998, the couple got married. In 1999, the couple was blessed with their daughter, Kiara, and in 2007, Aditi gave birth to their second child, Zhiaan. Soon, their happy married life began to face problems, and they decided to divorce in 2008. Reportedly, their different lifestyles were the cause of their rift; as Aditi has started her career in modeling and acting, while Muffazal continues his medical profession.
After Muffazal divorced Aditi in 2009, he married for the second time in 2011. He married Priyanka Kaul Lakdawala in Goa, who worked at the Institute of Digestive Health, Mumbai. Controversy
In 2017, the heaviest Egyptian woman in the world, Emam Ahmed (500Kg) was brought to India at Saifee Hospital in Mumbai for bariatric surgery and Dr Muffazal Lakdawala took care of her case. Later, Emam’s mother and sister accused Dr Muffazal Lakdawala of not treating Emam properly, and Emam’s sister called Muffazal a liar in one of his live videos. Emam Saimma’s sister said in an interview,
Mom has not recovered at all. He has been in a critical condition for the past one and a half months and is on massive medication to stop brain activity.”
While Dr Muffazal in his defense said,
Eman is healthy and well. She has recovered well and only a CT scan needs to be done to confirm her neurological condition Actually, Everything was fine with Saimma for the initial 15 days after Eman’s treatment started but when she recovered and we suggested she could be brought back to Egypt, Saimma started creating all these dramas because he did not want to bring his sister back to Egypt for financial reasons, More than a challenge, we took it as a humanitarian cause. We just can’t see him lying like that, so helpless, just waiting for death to come. The risk of this case is 99%. I think now, we have given him a chance to live. If he does physiotherapy properly and wants to be able to walk, Eman will have to work.”
