Drake Says Record Labels Passed On Signing Him Due To His ‘Corny’ Outfits

During his recent show at the Apollo Theater, Drake took a moment to reflect on his first trip to New York, which he made in an effort to get signed by a record label.

He shared that he met with many executives during that time, but all discussions ended with him being rejected.

“I came here with my uncle, trying to get signed, you know? I think I sat in front of everyone for like, a week straight. And I was rejected by everyone for a week in a row,” the rapper told the audience, recounting the failure of his career, per Insider.

Sharing more about the experience, Drake revealed that his choice of clothing at the time was a huge turn-on for the cast and largely contributed to why no one chose to sign him.

“In all fairness, my choice of clothing was terrible at the time,” she added. “They say I look ridiculous. I do not agree. I might wear some Club Monaco khakis with a button-up or something. It’s very bad.”

Drake claims that instead of giving up on his musical ambitions, he returned home and began working on more music in the hope that someone would decide to believe him.

He said, “I came home, and I had to go back to my mother’s basement because it wasn’t what I thought it would be. So I went back, and I wrote a few more songs to see if I could get signed, and finally, someone called.”

The rapper has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards from 47 nominations and over 29 Billboard Music Awards.

At one point during his performance, Drake thanked fans for their unwavering support throughout the year.

He also revealed that their love inspired him to continue creating more music, assuring them that he has no plans to stop his music career anytime soon.

“I’ve been thinking about maybe what’s going to happen, like, ‘Oh, it’s a good run. Maybe I should go while it’s hot, go while it’s good,'” the rapper said. “But the love I still got to this day this, after all these years, I will tell you: I will not leave you high and dry.”

He added, “As long as you listen, I’ll be here for you. In your darkest moments and your happiest moments, I will be there for you.”

A Fan Falls From a Balcony During a Drake Concert

Drake’s two-day run at the Apollo Theater will surely be remembered for years to come. However, it was almost marred by an incident involving a fan.

While the “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” singer was performing on Sunday, a fan fell from the second floor into the orchestra pit.

A crew member immediately informed the rapper of the incident, which caused him to stop the concert while security officers tried to locate the individual.

Almost a quarter of an hour later, it was revealed that the fall was not fatal and the individual involved was receiving medical treatment.

“Everybody’s really OK,” a voice called over the loudspeaker, per Insider. “They are being checked. No one was hurt. But I’ve got even better news for you: We’re at the Apollo, so the show must go on.”
