Terrifying surveillance video captures the moment a wealthy Los Angeles homeowner opened fire on a pair of masked intruders who snuck up behind him as he walked up to his door.
The man was seen walking into his Mid-City home about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, holding a drink in one hand and pulling keys from his pocket with the other, footage broadcast by ABC 7 and the Fox 11 Los Angeles show.
One of the men, dressed in all black, sneaks up on him — but he quickly turns the tables by throwing his cup, pulls out a gun and fires at the fleeing bandits.
“Out of nowhere I felt someone run behind me, put something behind me, put a gun behind me and someone run,” the man told ABC 7.
“I think they decided to try to come to me and get into the house but I have a 5-month-old baby and a wife and a nanny at home and that’s not going to happen,” he said.

“There is nothing in my house that deserves to die. But I am willing to die for my family,” added his father.
He told Fox 11 he was wearing earphones at the time — “which I shouldn’t have done.”
The man, who said he had a concealed carry permit, told Fox 11 he wasn’t sure if he hit one of the trespassers, who had jumped over his front yard fence.

One of them appeared to have opened fire before fleeing.
“If anybody else tries to come, they’re going to die trying to get into this house,” the man told Fox 11. “There’s one chance to get in — and that’s it.”
“It’s only a matter of time before these people are arrested. I think they just need to pick a new career before they end up in jail,” he told ABC 7 after filing a report with the LAPD’s Olympic Division.

Police said they are investigating the shooting.
The troubling incident comes as soft-crime LA District Attorney George Gascón — whose vigilante policies have been blamed for rising crime in the city and surrounding areas — has come under fire for his progressive orders to reform prosecutions.
Last month, LA County enacted new rules that release nonviolent offenders back onto the streets instead of holding them in jail until their trials.
Critics of the progressive policy say they are bracing for more of the smash-and-grab incidents that have hit big-name stores and mom-and-pop shops.
Residents expressed concern that this could lead to an increase in crime.
“What if someone came in and tried to break into my house … but they didn’t harm me,” a person named Silvia told local KTLA. “I am angry because he is in my house. That’s not violence, right?”
