When Drew Barrymore was filming the hit movie “ET the Extra-Terrestrial” at age 7, she thought ET was real and treated it as such. On an upcoming episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Barrymore had some of her “ET” castmates on the show as guests in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary. A clip of the episode posted on the show’s Instagram page shows a conversation about Barrymore’s sweet love for extraterrestrials.
Drew Barrymore Reveals She Thinks ET Is Real
Forty years after ET called home, Barrymore reunited with several cast members, Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, and Robert McNaughton, on her talk show to celebrate the milestone year. As the old friends sat reminiscing about the film, Barrymore announced, “Now I believe ET is real.” He continued to explain his feelings about his extraterrestrial friend. “I really loved him in such a deep way,” she said.
Other actors later shared sweet stories about how Barrymore would treat ET on set. Thomas offered a story about the time Barrymore asked someone in wardrobe for a scarf. “The first thing I remember is we were on stage and it was quite cold on stage and you asked the wardrobe lady if you could put a scarf around ET’s neck because she was going to be cold,” he said. “So you wrapped the scarf around his neck.”
Wallace jumped in to explain how Barrymore was always found talking to ET “We found you there just talking away with ET and so we told Steven,” he said. “So Steven, since then appoint two men to keep ET alive so that whenever you come to talk to him, he can respond to you.”

The iconic film has spanned many generations since it first hit the big screen in 1982. Children of all ages and adults alike have seen the film at least once. To celebrate the milestone year, there is now a 40th Anniversary edition of the film available with brand new bonus features on 4k, Blu-Ray & Digital. A Sequel to “ET the Extra Terrestrial” Probably Won’t Happen
During the episode, the cast also discussed whether they would have any desire to reunite on screen for a sequel. Given the film’s classic status and the fact that original screenwriter Melissa Mathison died in 2015, there was little interest. The full episode airs on “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Monday, October 31.
