The couple, who have been friends for more than eight years, are both producers of Netflix’s new children’s show “Princess Power.” While promoting the show on “Today,” they announced their friendship and planned to get tattoos together that day.

When asked how their friendship came about, Barrymore, 47, said, “Love at first sight.” The two first met when Guthrie, 51, interviewed Barrymore about her memoir. “It’s an electrical connection,” Barrymore said. Guthrie jumped in to add, “We had a soul connection. And Drew nurtured his friendship. He watered the flowers. It meant a lot to him and so we stayed in touch and we met, and we hung out.”

That’s when the two talked about what they planned to do that day together. “We’re going to get a tattoo,” Guthrie announced. Barrymore says Guthrie’s tattoo is very special. “This is my 11th or 12th and this is yours,” Barrymore said as Guthrie jumped in to add, “I’ve never had a tattoo. It’s really scary.”

“The tat on Savannah’s arm is her father’s exact handwriting. ‘All my love.’ ‘He wrote a love letter to my mum and this is what he wrote,’ she shared. ‘And it’s not just his writing, so he’s with me, but I try to make it my mantra for life.’ ?”

Barrymore’s tattoos are said to focus on her children. He got three thin sardine lines drawn on his arm.

Drew Barrymore And Savannah Guthrie Are Producers For Netflix Show “Princess Power”

The “Princess Power” series is inspired by Guthrie’s New York Times bestselling children’s book, “Princesses Wear Pants” and was recently released on Netflix.

Guthrie, mother to son Charles “Charley” Max, 6, and daughter Vale, 8, told PEOPLE she loves how the book has inspired the show. “We love how our books have evolved into the ‘Power Princess’ series and will inspire our audience to be women of great character and integrity, embrace their differences and channel them into teamwork and friendship, and how to do it all with a little sparkle and fun,” Guthrie said.

Barrymore, also a mother of two, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, is excited for this project celebrating girl power. “Of all the roles I’ve played in my life and all the life I’ve experienced, I truly know that being a parent is the most important job I’ve ever had,” she said in a statement.

The Barrymore girls enjoy reading books. “I’m happy to pay that positive energy forward by introducing ‘Princess Power’ to the next generation of our amazing girls who can make the world a better place through acts of kindness and taking action together, crown or no crown,” said Barrymore.
