In a recent interview with Many peopleBarrymore admits that going through a divorce was one of the most challenging experiences of her life and it put her in a bad place.

The actress and her ex-husband, Will Kopelman, separated in 2016, and she stated that one of the hardest things about it was that there was no scandal or other possible reason because “nothing went wrong.”

“We are working hard to make it happen. A friend once said to me, ‘Divorce is death in a dream.’ That’s what it feels like—something so final you can’t get it back,” revealed the “Batman Forever” actor.

Barrymore, 43, also revealed that despite being divorced, she has vowed in her heart to raise her children, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, as a family.

She noted that it wasn’t easy, calling the years after her divorce “very difficult,” revealing that she had to move to New York to be near the Kopelman family.

“It just brought me down,” he said. “There are times where you can look at someone you thought was strong and see them so broken and say, ‘How did they get there?’ and I am that person. I’m broken.” He also mentioned that alcohol helped him cope with his pain.

Barrymore explained how her drinking problem led her astray again and she had to deal with it because of her children.
