‘Drew Barrymore Show’: Here’s What It’s REALLY Like To Be In The Audience!

Drew Barrymore may seem like she’s very humble and everyone’s best friend through the screen, but what is she like in real life?

I recently went to a taping of “The Drew Barrymore Show” and I would like to share my experience for anyone who is considering getting tickets to be in the audience of her show.

I Was an Audience at the Taping of “The Drew Barrymore Show”

A few weeks ago, I saw an Instagram Story about getting tickets to be in the audience of Barrymore’s talk show. I thought it would be a fun thing to do so I filled out an online form asking for four tickets. About an hour later, I got an email saying I got a ticket.

So, I gathered some friends and planned to go to New York City, about two hours from where I live, for a fun adventure. I don’t know, it will not only be a fun experience, but also profitable. (More on that later.)

When you first arrive at the studio in Manhattan, you line up outside the door until it’s time to enter. The line wasn’t long, and we were only on the sidewalk for about 20 minutes. Once inside the building, everyone goes through security, hands in a ticket and is then taken to a waiting room until it’s time to enter the studio. Before you are escorted into the studio, everyone is told that phones must be switched off; not vibrating or silent but turned off, and saved, so the last picture i was able to take was from the hallway to the waiting room.

Once you reach the entrance of the studio, each party is escorted to their seats. Two friends went with me and the three of us sat in front of the regular seats (right behind a few rows of what looked like VIP seats).

Once everyone is seated, the warm-up guy gets everyone hyped up for a fun show. Music plays and he explains what is expected of the audience and how things will go. He makes hand signals when it’s time to clap or laugh. While the audience was having fun practicing their high-energy excitement, the crew was preparing the set for the recording.

The show is filmed in various segments. The entire set was all in front of the audience and Barrymore and her guests simply moved to whichever set the segment was being filmed. No matter where you sit, you have a great seat to see all the action just a few feet away.

When Barrymore and her co-host Ross Matthews stepped onto the set, the audience cheered! All that practice pays off! He smiled, just as you’d expect. They immediately began the first segment, Drew News.

During the afternoon taping, which we went to, there were two guests, comedian and author Sarah Cooper, and writer and podcast host Dylan Marron. Everything about Barrymore’s interview was real and raw. He really looks very genuine and shows his true self.

After taping a segment with Marron, Barrymore got emotional about how her book helped her through a tough time. She explained that she recently went through something difficult that really took a toll on her and made her decide not to defend or explain herself on social media anymore.

For anyone who follows Barrymore on Instagram, it’s pretty clear she’s referring to the backlash she received after sharing her reasons for starting to film her show while the writers’ strike was still going on, as well as her explanation when people left negative comments on the decision. She opened her mouth and spoke her heart out on social media and got a lot of negative comments, which later caused her to delete her post.

If that’s the situation he’s referring to, it makes perfect sense why Marron’s book, “Conversations With People Who Hate Me” would be his saving grace. He lets his emotions flow during the conversation, and you can feel how genuine he really is.

After a few more segments, it’s time to wrap things up. But before saying goodbye, he told everyone they were going home with a $100 gift card. Cooper and Marron also gave each guest their book, so everyone left with three amazing gifts after a fun time getting an up-close look at how the show was filmed and interacting with Barrymore.

My opinion: If you’re in New York City and have time during the day when the show tapes, GO! Tickets are free, the whole experience of being inside the building is only about three hours, and you might get some cool prizes to take home with you.
