Delaney described her late son as “a very sweet, mischievous and funny boy.” The actress wrote about the loss in her new book, “A Heart That Works,” in which she wants to help other parents who have lost a child.

During a recent appearance on “The One Show,” per E! News Dwayne and Delaney talk about their late son, Henry, who died at the age of two. Johnson became emotional as he recalled how he felt when he heard the news of Henry’s death and the message of support he sent Delaney.

Johnson said, “I have babies at home, all girls: 21, 6 and 4. That story, hearing that shocked us in our household.” Delaney acknowledged Dwayne’s sentiments and said the way he sent his message of support was “a great template.” He said, “He (Johnson) said Henry’s name and said something sweet, and he did it. It makes me feel good.”

Johnson sent his condolences to Delaney and his family via a Twitter post, which read, “Stay strong my friend. My Ohana sends our love and light to you and your Ohana.” At that time, the “Red Notice” star and the “Disaster” star had yet to work together. They later starred together in the 2019 action film “Hobbs and Shaw.”

Henry Sadly Passed Away In 2018

Henry died of a brain tumor on Delaney’s 41st birthday in 2018. He was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor shortly after his first birthday and underwent surgery to remove it, which left him “physically disabled”. After 15 months of hospital rehabilitation, the little boy returned home with his family and spent time with his parents and brothers.

Unfortunately, a checkup a few months later revealed Henry’s cancer had started to return, and eventually took him. Delaney described her late son as “a very sweet, mischievous, funny boy” who “immediately felt that he needed to be very magnetic and cute and interesting because our house was a zoo.”

Rob Delaney Writes About Loss In His New Book

During her conversation with Johnson, Delaney explained why she decided to write about her family’s loss in her upcoming book, “A Heart That Works.” He said he wanted the book to help other parents who lost children, especially to cancer.

Delaney said, “It’s not bravery, it’s just what other people who are grieving have done for me and my wife. If I can write a book that can reach someone in suburban Yorkshire who can’t attend a meeting of grieving parents in London, then I should.”

Excerpts from Delaney’s new book were recently published at The Sunday Times and get strong support from fans. The excerpt included Delaney’s account of a difficult time for him and his wife, Leah. He described that period and the following months as the pinnacle of his success so far but also “obscured by a fog.”

Delaney later thanked his fans for the “shocking response” to the Sunday Times quote. She posted a message on Instagram, which read, “I feel a lot of things but one is that people only see the tiniest, tiniest sliver of Henry and our family’s experience.”

The comedian continued, “I want to scream “Wait! You need to read the rest immediately!” I feel like people have gone into a tunnel and got stuck there and have to read the whole book to get out.” Delaney also said he’s donating “100% of the money I make from this book to a children’s hospice.”
