When SAG-AFTRA went on strike on July 13, forcing the “Oppenheimer” cast out of the UK premiere, the wheels were set in motion, heading to Dwayne Johnson.
SAG-AFTRA President Courtney B. Vance spoke about how Johnson’s historic contribution was a “call to arms”.
SAG-AFTRA Writes Letter To All Highest Paid Celebrities

As in an interview with Variety magazine, SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance and executive director Cyd Wilson sat down and together, drafted a letter to the union’s 2,700 highest-paid actors. The letter basically talks about the financial needs that many will face in layoffs.
The list of highest paid actors includes Dwayne Johnson, of course, along with others Leonardo DiCaprio, and Chris Hemsworth.
This is not the first time money has been needed to help some of the 160,000 members of the SAG-AFTRA union. While celebrities don’t need an influx of cash during their days off, many do, and this non-profit foundation is something that’s helping a lot of people get through the tough days during COVID as well.
In the interview, Wilson claimed that when help is needed, help is given to members from the foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program, and with the strike not ending quickly, it may come in handy again. Wilson said, “We are very fortunate that we raise enough money to be able to cover all of our programs. But when we’re hit by a crisis like this and we’re going to spend millions of dollars in financial aid, this is when we need our high-profile talent who can, who are in a position to help others.”
Dwayne Johnson Reaches Out To Help

Once the letter was sent, Johnson’s team contacted Vance, indicating that the actor wanted to help, so Vance set up a phone call with him, which he described as a “love fest.”
Vance recalled telling Johnson, “It was like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that lets other people know the need is so important to him.'” The total was in the seven figures although the exact number has been kept secret, but Vance was all praise for Johnson: “This is him who said, ‘In times like these, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a big message to other people to do the same.”
Johnson’s donation has the potential to help 7,000 to 10,000 members of the SAG-AFTRA union, and it’s something Vance thanks the actor for. He acknowledged it was the largest single donation the foundation has ever received from an individual at one time and told Variety, “That one check will help thousands of actors put food on their tables, keep their kids safe and keep their cars. running And I don’t miss that he’s very humble about it, but it’s a way to get us started.”
Fans Are Amazed By Their ROCK

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Instagram handle shared the news and fans seemed blown away by Johnson’s generosity. Johnson himself remained silent about the same, not responding to any comments or questions that came about the same, choosing to be generous, quietly.
Fans say it all through many appreciative comments, such as:
“And THAT, ladies and gentlemen is who he is and why he is loved by so many. What an amazing human being. ❤️ Bravo, Bravo.”
“I have heard nothing but the MOST amazing things about him. Just as genuine, kind, and giving as he seems. ❤️ amazing.”
“This is what the true members of Hollywood do at times like these. It shows that compassionate people have to go through this.”
“No one helps others in need and hunger more than those who were hungry before and made it bigger. It is in their nature that they don’t want anyone else to feel the pain they once felt. Good job Mr. Johnson. Thank you for being a giver.”
Here’s another sweet example of Johnson being The Rock, for someone who needs it.
