Facebook is something we love to stay engaged in by scrolling through the feed, but what if it suddenly stops responding? This can surely put you in a big dilemma as to what could have gone wrong. And for a hobbyist like me, it took me a whole day to figure out what went wrong and why Facebook isn’t responding. So this is what I learned after experiencing the ‘Facebook not responding’ issue.
If Facebook is not responding, your first step should be to check if Facebook is down for everyone or if only you are facing the problem. And if it’s not down and the servers are working fine, you can continue with the troubleshooting tips provided later in this guide depending on the device you’re using.
Part 1 Facebook Desktop Site Not Responsive
If Facebook won’t load or respond in any web browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari, you can apply the following troubleshooting tips:
Browsers need to be updated from time to time in order for them to function properly. If you haven’t updated your browser in a while and Facebook isn’t responding, and you don’t know why, this might be the answer to your ‘Why’.
If you think your browser has been too slow, it’s probably due to caches and cookies that have accumulated in your history. You should clear your browsing data from time to time, as too much of it can cause Facebook to stop responding, or it will take too long to load, even if your internet speed is great.
If Facebook won’t open in Google Chrome, you may want to switch to a different browser, as sometimes unexpected issues can occur with your browsers, so you can make sure the issue is with your browser or something else.
Facebook may not respond even when you have installed many third-party apps or plugins on your device. So you can remove them one after the other and see what was causing the error.
Part 2 Facebook App Not Responding
If the Facebook app is not responding on your Android or iPhone device, here are the steps you should take:
If your mobile device does not have enough storage space, this may be the reason why Facebook is not responding. Clear up your storage space by deleting unimportant files and photos, and then try going back to Facebook. If Facebook still won’t open, you can try the next solution.
Failing to update the Facebook app will cause you to face problems and may even cause the app to crash. So just go to Android Play Store or Apple Play Store and install the latest version of Facebook. After updating the app, see if it starts responding. If Facebook is still not available, go to the next step.
If Facebook is still not working, or FB is taking too long to respond, you should check your internet. If the signal is too weak, try moving to a place closer to the router or if you are using the cellular network, you can switch to a Wi-Fi network with better bandwidth. You can also try to reconnect to the network by disconnecting it first.
This can also fix issues with Facebook and you should restart the app if it takes too long to respond. You can also quit all other apps running in the background as this can also cause the Facebook app to take too long to respond.
The Facebook app tends to accumulate cache files over time and not clearing the cache can cause the Facebook app to freeze, crash or become unresponsive. To fix this, open the FB app from your device Settings and then from the Storage section, clear the cache. After that check if you are facing the same error.
Once you have cleared the app cache, your next step should be to log out of your Facebook account and then restart your mobile device. After this, log into your Facebook account again and see if it responds normally.
The last thing you can try is to make sure that your mobile device has the latest operating system installed. In this way, you can ensure that all the applications on your phone work at their best. So if you haven’t updated your Android or iOS device for a long time, it’s the right time to do it.
