Ed Sheeran Creates New Song To Honor His Love Of… Pokémon?

Singer Ed Sheeran tries to catch them all in his new hit song!

The “Shape Of You” singer loves Pokémon so much that he created his own song dedicated to the popular franchise.

Her new song, “Celestial,” and its accompanying video, will be released on Thursday, September 29.

Ed Sheeran Reveals He STILL Plays Pokémon With His Game Boy Color!

In an Instagram post, the “Perfect” singer shared a sketch of her torso with a Pikachu perched on her shoulder to promote her new single. In the caption, the 31-year-old singer talked about her decades-long love of Pokémon.

“I started with Pokémon cards when the craze hit elementary school when I was about 7, then the tv show was on tv so I used to try and record it on the same VHS every week,” he explained. “After this my brother and I share a game boy and Pokémon blue. I got a game boy color with Pokémon yellow for my 8th birthday, obsessed is an understatement.”

“Flash forward to me at 31 years old. I still have the same player colors and I’m still playing Pokémon silver on long-haul flights,” he revealed, perhaps hinting at how he’s spending his downtime on his latest tour.

“I really, really like it. It gave me the escape I needed as a child into a world of fantasy that seemed to go on and on, and in adult life it was nostalgia that made me feel like a kid again,” he continued. “I met people from Pokémon when I was traveling in Japan, and we joked about me writing a song for them.”

The show featured some of Sheeran’s hits, along with songs from Sheeran’s new album “=”. The performance included “Perfect,” “Bad Habits,” “Graffiti Overpass,” “Thinking Out Loud,” “First Time” and “Shivering.”

Niantic also revealed that Sheeran always chooses Air-type Pokémon as his starter Pokémon, leading to a special event featuring all of the first Air-type partner starters available in the game for a limited time.

Is Squirtle His Favorite Pokémon?

To celebrate his love of Water-starters, and more specifically Squirtle, he teased a temporary Pokémon tattoo on his arm to promote his new song in another Instagram post.

However, in another Instagram video, Sheeran describes himself as “Kind of a mix between Charmander and Jigglypuff” in a short clip that shows him lying in the middle of a pile of plush toys, including Charizard, Bulbasaur, Lapras, and other familiar faces.

Her new song, “Celestial,” and music video, will be available on Thursday, September 29.
