Singer Ed Sheeran took to Instagram on Thursday to thank Taylor Swift for her role in helping create his new album, “Subtract.”
In the post, the “Bad Habits” singer revealed that it was actually Taylor who put her in touch with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner, who helped provide instrumentals and collaborated on an album she’s “very proud of.”

In her latest Instagram post, the “Shape Of You” singer revealed that she got a message from Taylor Swift in 2021 to work with Aaron Dessner. Although he was not interested in collaboration at the time, some things that happened in his personal life caused him to write like never before. Using instrumentals Dessner sent him for inspiration, the two ended up collaborating together in what Sheeran described as “the most incredible process.”
“So in 2021, I got a message from @taylorswift to hook me up with @aarondessner. He thought he and I would make something great together,” he explained. “I have to be honest, I was kind of reluctant to work with him right after folklore and forever because I felt like that was Taylor’s thing and they both did it perfectly.”

“But we met for dinner, talked about life and music, and he promised to send me some instruments for me to write on when inspiration struck,” he wrote. “As soon as I got it, I loved the whole vibe of it and knew that one day I’d write to them, but at the time I was finishing what I thought was Push, so would put it on the back burner for a bit.”
“Then, as I said in my announcement post, a lot of things started happening in my personal life that I felt it necessary to express about the song and write diaristically about it,” he said. “I had Aarons instrument, so just started writing, and writing, and writing. He flew to the UK and we recorded it in a week by the sea, and it was the most incredible process, and an album I’m very proud of.”

Just a day ago, the 32-year-old singer took to Instagram to announce her new album “Subtract.” In the post, Ed Sheeran admitted that he “had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to carve out the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then at the beginning of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I see music and art.”
“Within a month, my pregnant wife was told she had a tumor, with no treatment options until after delivery,” he wrote, referring to his wife Cherry Seaborn. The couple welcomed their second daughter together last May.
“My best friend Jamal, my brother, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and my career as a songwriter,” he said, referring to the death of Jamal Edwards and the copyright of “Shape Of You.” trial.

“I’m struggling through fear, depression and anxiety. I feel like I’m drowning, head under the surface, looking up but can’t break through the air,” she wrote, saying songwriting was her form of therapy.
“It helps me understand my feelings,” she explains. “I write without thinking about what the songs are, I just write whatever fails. And in just over a week I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest thoughts.”

“As an artist, I don’t feel that I can put credible work into the world that doesn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is just that,” he said.
“It opened a trap door into my soul,” he concluded. “For the first time, I’m not trying to make an album that people like, I’m just putting out something that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.”
