Elderly Shih Tzu escaped owner’s yard — only to be found at a bar a mile from home

A Wisconsin woman was shocked to discover that her elderly Shih Tzu-terrier mix was still a pet — after the dog snuck out of the backyard and ended up at a local bar.

Jenny Hazard, of Milwaukee, was frantically looking for her 16-year-old pet last week, when she got an unexpected text saying, “if this is your dog, it’s at Finks,” referring to a bar a mile from her home.

“I’m like, what?” Hazard told the Fox 6 station.

Hazard said on Wednesday evening she was in her backyard with her three dogs, including Bear, when the dog slipped through a gate that was left slightly open.

“After about 15 or 20 minutes I just cried,” Hazard said. “Because he is old, he has heart disease.”

Hazard took to social media, asking people in the area to keep an eye out for the furry escapee, who is also partially blind and walks with a limp.

Bear, a 16-year-old Shih Tzu-terrier mix, was described as having the time of his life in a Milwaukee bar after running away from home. FOX6’s Jenny Hazard, pictured with Bear, said she slipped out of the gate while walking around her backyard on Jan. 24. FOX6

“He can’t go far in the snow. I was like, where could he possibly go?” Hazard said.

Soon after, Hazard receives a text message revealing that at the time, Bear was raising the roof at a nearby bar.

“We got a text. They said: your dog is at Finks,” Hazard said.

His friend then sent the relieved dog owner a photo showing the pint-sized alcoholic dog enjoying himself at Finks Bar a mile from home.

“They look after him well, and I think he’s quite popular,” said Hazard.

It was not immediately known how the senior dog, who has liver problems and poor mobility, made it to the water hole in the snow.

“Old people let loose, go to the bar,” joked Hazard.

The owner later found out that his adventurous pet was hanging out at Finks with a group of bar-hopping women.

The owner of the tavern said that the customers must have picked up Bear on the street and told him to come along.

The emaciated dog was later reunited with its owner.
