“I wanted to reach out personally to share my motivation in acquiring Twitter,” Musk began. “There has been a lot of speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I think about advertising. Most of them are wrong.”

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important for the future of civilization to have a common digital city square, where various beliefs can be debated in a healthy way, without reverting to violence,” he continued. “Currently there is a great danger that social media will split into right-wing and left-wing echoing wings that generate more hatred and division in our society.”

“In the relentless pursuit of clicks, much of the traditional media has fueled and catered to that polarizing extreme, because they believe that’s what makes the money, but, in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue is lost,” the SpaceX CEO added. .

“That’s why I bought Twitter,” he continued. “I didn’t do it because it would be easy. I don’t do it to make more money. I do it to try to help humanity, which I love. And I do so humbly, realizing that failure in pursuit of this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.”

“That said, Twitter clearly cannot be a free-for-all, where anything can be said without consequence!” he continued. “In addition to complying with national laws, our platform must be friendly and welcoming to all, where you can choose the experience you want according to your preferences, as you can choose, for example, to watch movies or play video games. from all ages to maturity.”

“I also strongly believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you services or products or medical treatments that you never knew existed, but are right for you,” he wrote. “For this to be a reality, it is important to show Twitter users advertising that may be relevant to their needs. Ads with low relevance are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content!”

“Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the world’s most respected advertising platform that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise,” Musk concluded. “To all who have cooperated with us, I am grateful. Let’s build something incredible together.”

At the time, Musk said, “While obviously, I and other investors are clearly overpaying for Twitter right now, the long-term potential for Twitter is in my view an order of magnitude greater than its current value.”

“I’m excited about the Twitter situation,” he added, calling the social media platform an asset “that has been languishing for a long time.”

During the earnings call, he was also asked about the possibility of folding all of his businesses, including SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter, under one umbrella. Musk admitted, “It’s not clear to me what the overlap is. It’s not zero, but we’re getting there.”

“I’m not Warren Buffett. I am not an investor. I’m an engineer and a manufacturing person and a technologist,” he continued. “I actually work and design and develop products. We won’t have an investment portfolio or anything. I don’t see a clear window where they can be combined. At least now.”

Elon Musk has until Friday, October 28, at 5pm to close the deal, or a new court date will be scheduled for November.
