Elon Musk joined Donald Trump and Republican critics in denouncing the controversial Senate border deal that President Joe Biden touted as “the toughest and fairest set of reforms.”
“No law needs to be passed” to stop the US border crisis, Musk, the world’s richest man, posted on X – called it “undeniable” that Biden has implemented an “open borders” policy.
“What is needed is an executive order to require evidence before granting an asylum hearing,” the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX – a legal immigrant from South Africa – wrote on Friday. “That’s how it used to be.”
Trump on Saturday blasted the still-secret border deal that was reportedly scrapped by a bipartisan group of senators.
“Just 3 years ago we had the strongest and most secure Border in US History,” Trump wrote on Social Truth. “Today we have a catastrophe waiting to happen … an open wound in our once great Nation.”

“BAD BORDER BUSINESS IS MUCH WORSE THAN NO BORDER BUSINESS!” he added.
The still-under wraps deal, if passed, would reportedly trigger a partial or full border closure if illegal crossings exceed 4,000 a day — in effect, allowing 1.5 million or more new immigrants into the country each year.
“It looks like a bill … that generally sets this level much higher than the Obama administration,” Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) told Politico Saturday. “To me, that looks like a Democratic win.”

Senator Mike Lee of Utah also expressed skepticism.
“They already have the power to ‘close the border to illegal immigrants’,” Lee posted on X. “Isn’t that what our immigration laws are all about?”
Speaker Mike Johnson, in a letter to his GOP colleagues on Friday, said the rumored border deal would be “dead on arrival” in the Republican-majority House of Representatives.
A record 302,000 migrants crossed the US-Mexico border illegally in December.
