Emilia Clarke Reveals She Won’t Appear In Jon Snow ‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off

Actress Emilia Clarke revealed that she will not be making an appearance in the new “Game of Thrones” spin-off show that features Kit Harrington reprising his role as Jon Snow.

While fans would love to see the “Solo: A Star Wars Story” actress reprise her role as Daenerys Targaryen, albeit only in a small cameo, Clarke cast doubt on the possibility of her returning to the franchise.

I’ll watch that one because of you, or I’ll tell you that I did. He then teased, “FYI, you killed me… spoiler alert!’”

Fans of the franchise may remember that Jon Snow killed his lover, aunt and new queen, by plunging a dagger into her heart in the final episode. As punishment, he was exiled back to the Night’s Watch and returned outside the Wall with the remaining Free Citizens in the closing moments of the final season. The spin-off sequel will take the story from there and focus on Snow’s life after the end of “Game of Thrones”.

The Jon Snow Spin-Off Is All Kit Harrington’s Idea

Both Emilia Clarke and “Game of Thrones” author George RR Martin have admitted that the idea for the Jon Snow spin-off actually came from Kit Harrington. In June 2022, Emilia Clarke told the BBC that Kit Harrington had spoken to her about the project.

“He has told me about it,” Clarke said at the time. “And I know it exists. It is happening. It was created by Kit as far as I understand, so he was in it from the ground up. So what you’re going to watch, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”

Although Daenerys has not been ruled out for a return, in June 2022, another “Star Wars” alum Gwendoline Christie, told Newsweek that she would like to reprise her role as Brienne of Tarth, who was lucky enough to survive the finale. “Brienne of Tarth is very close to my heart, and I would relish any opportunity to visit her again,” he sat down at the time. “I believe he survived.”

In June 2022, author George RR Martin shared an update on his blog about the show, confirming that the Hollywood Reporter reported that a “Game of Thrones” spin-off series starring Kit Harrington was accurate.

“I don’t have any free time today, truth be told, but I’m making one, as news has spread about Jon Snow’s development and I’ve been inundated with requests to comment,” he wrote. “Yes, there is a Jon Snow plan in development. The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER story is largely correct.”

“There are four live-action replacement shows in development at HBO,” he explained. “Word got out about three of them a while back. TEN THOUSAND SHIPS, Nymeria show, helmed by Amanda Segel. SEA SNAKE, aka NINE VOYAGES, with Bruno Heller. And the show Dunk & Egg, THE HEDGE KNIGHT or KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, written by Steve Conrad. I think some of these have been officially announced; in other cases, news leaks.”

“SNOW was developed almost identically to the other three, but for whatever reason it was never announced and it was never leaked… until now,” he added. “But, yes, it’s true. This isn’t an official announcement from HBO, so it looks like there’s another leak. There’s not much else I can tell you, until HBO gives me the green light.”

“It seems as though Emilia Clarke has mentioned that SNOW was Kit’s idea in a recent interview. So that part is out,” he continued. “Yes, Kit Harrington brought the idea to us. I can’t tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, because they haven’t been revealed for release yet… but Kit brought them too, his own team, and they’re great.”

“Various rumors are floating around about my involvement, or lack thereof,” he added. “I’m involved, just like I was with THE HEDGE KNIGHT and THE SEA SNAKE and TEN THOUSAND SHIPS, and all the animated shows. Kit’s team visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and a brilliant and talented team of writers/consultants to launch the show.”

“That’s all I can tell you about SNOW,” he concluded. “If HBO says I can tell you more, I will…” So far, no release date has been scheduled for the new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series as fans of the franchise await season 2 of “House of the Dragon.”
