Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski has opened up about overcoming her “fear of abandonment.”
The author shared that she went to therapy to deal with the issue and has now evolved into a “safer” and “independent” version of herself.
Ratajkowski was previously married to actor Sebastian Bear-McClard but separated from him following various issues. She was recently rumored to be dating comedian Pete Davidson after the pair were spotted at several events together.
In a previous interview, the actress shared that she used to be a “pick-me-girl” and discussed weight loss and weight gain after her split from her ex-husband.
‘You Really Don’t Want To Be Alone’

During a discussion on his High Low podcast, Ratajkowski gave an honest statement about undergoing therapy to deal with some personal issues.
The mother-of-one revealed that her therapy sessions have been going on for a long time and it has helped her deal with her “fear of abandonment”.
While Ratajkowski didn’t share an insight into when the issues started, she did reveal that her therapist diagnosed her with an “anxious preoccupation” attachment style after she started going to sessions.
“It means you really don’t want to be alone,” the “Blurred Lines” video vixen detailed during her show, Page Six. “You usually have a negative self-image [and a] positive view of others.”
In addition to having a negative view of oneself, Ratajkowski also details other characteristics seen in individuals with an “anxious preoccupation” attachment style.
He added, “They often seek approval, support, and responsiveness from their partners. You always turn to your parents for more reassurance[ance].”
Therapy Helped Emily Ratajkowski Become Independent

Fortunately for the actress, she was able to work on herself by studying attachment styles during therapy and relating them to herself. It caused him to make a lot of progress towards becoming a “safer” type than he was before.
Ratajkowski continued, “For me, it was really in therapy where I learned to be independent and get to the root of my fear of abandonment.”
The model also hopes to apply everything she’s learned to her relationship with her son, Sylvester, to have a more “secure” attachment to him. The model shares a one-year-old child with ex-husband Bear-McClard, who she divorced earlier this year following a cheating scandal.
She has been linked to several other stars following her breakup with actors, most recently, comedian Davidson.

Earlier in October, Ratajkowski also opened up about another aspect of her personal life, saying she used to be a “pick-me-girl” when she was younger, switching between relationships without taking the time to properly evaluate her partner.
“I really want to be elected. It’s hard for me to go on a date with someone and think about how much I like or dislike them. I’ll think about how they see me, what it means, what they want from me, what it means about my self-esteem,” he revealed to Harper’s bazaar.
Ratajkowski added, “I don’t have that anymore. So now it’s really fun to go to dinner with someone and say, ‘Cool. I really enjoy these parts. I really don’t like this other part.”

Although Ratajkowski seems to have now reached a place of peace, most of the year has been quite stressful for My body writer, especially after her problems with her ex-husband.
The Gone Girl alum recently revealed that she lost a lot of weight when she wasn’t feeling well earlier in the year, describing the experience as “very scary.”

Later, Ratajkowski claimed that regaining some of her lost weight has made her feel better physically and mentally. “For me, [gaining weight] is a huge game changer, and that’s how I know I’m happy.”
