Eric Adams explains NYC is the ‘greatest city on the globe’ with bizarre 9/11 reference: ‘Very complicated’

Mayor Eric Adams shocked some social media users after referencing the World Trade Center terrorist attack in his description of why New York City is “the greatest city in the world.”

Adams was speaking with host Dan Mannarino on WPIX-TV’s “PIX on Politics” on Sunday when he asked the mayor what word he would use to describe 2023.

“New York. This is a place where every day you wake up, you can experience everything from a plane crashing into our Trade Center to someone celebrating a new business opening. This is a very, very complicated city, and that’s why it’s the greatest city in the world,” Adams replied.

The New York mayor’s reference to the series of terrorist attacks that killed some 3,000 people on September 11, 2001, surprised many. Many called Adams’ comments “disgraceful” and possibly the “worst answer” they had ever heard.

“Wut,” replied Fox News contributor Guy Benson.

Jack McGuire of Barstool Sports declared, “This might be the worst answer of 2023.”

“I’m not sure that selling New York as a place where you can experience 9/11 is the best argument that can be made for the greatest city in the world…” Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey said.

Fast Company columnist James Surowiecki wrote, “It’s not acting. He is a really strange man.”

“How can we continue to elect these stupid people? What a shame,” wrote ESPN’s Jake Asman.

“I’m just going to log off for the day,” New York Daily News columnist Antwan Stanley declared.

Elsewhere, during the interview, Adams spoke about the ongoing immigrant crisis affecting his city. He revealed that without additional help from the federal government, the city would be forced to make budget cuts.

“Alright, let’s be clear. What we have to do is very painful,” said Adams. “We have to look at how we deliver services to our agencies without the resources that we normally have.”
