A convicted murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison last month is considered “armed and extremely dangerous” after stealing a rifle with a scope and a flashlight – and authorities are warning he may not hesitate to kill again.
Danelo Cavalcante, 34, fled with “a .22-caliber rifle with a scope and a flashlight attached” late Monday from a garage in East Nantmeal Township, where the homeowner opened fire on him, Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens at a press conference Tuesday morning.
Cavalcante also took the ammunition that “was with the firearm,” he said.
“He is considered armed and very dangerous,” Bivens said.
“We always considered him as a risky person. We just found out that he had a weapon,” Bivens insisted.
“He has killed two people before,” he said of the risk of fugitives who may be desperate to remain free.

At least one school district was closed Tuesday as about 500 officers canvassed the surrounding area for inmates, Biden continued.
Homeowners are also urged to secure all residences, outbuildings and vehicles, even though there is no protection plan in place yet, he said.

Although the homeowner fired “several” shots at Cavalcante last night, the veteran attorney said, “there is no reason to believe that he was injured by the shots.”
“I think [Cavalcante] just trying to survive and avoid getting caught now,” he explained.
“He knows where he is … he’s been in that area before.
“We will actively hunt until we find him.”
While tactical teams were deployed in the main search area throughout the night, Bivens asked for the public’s patience as they slowly combed the heavily wooded area.
“It’s not a matter of just bursting into the woods and just knowing it’s the way it is [he went]”said Bivens, referring to Cavalcante as a “needle in a haystack.”

“Our law enforcement people have done an amazing job tracking him down and tracking him down,” he said.
Cavalcante, 34, of crab fame climbed the walls of the Chester County Jail on Aug. 31, just a week after he was sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend.
The 5-foot-tall killer later appeared in footage that showed him altering his appearance by removing his facial hair.

Late Monday, hundreds of police officers and a SWAT team descended on East Nantmeal Township when a homeowner reported that someone matching Cavalcante’s description had broken into his home and narrowly escaped through the garage, local outlets said.
Officers at the scene later said they also found a pair of boots that may have belonged to Cavalcante.
Cavalcante is also accused in Brazil of “double culpable homicide” in the 2017 killing of Válter Júnior Moreira dos Reis over a debt the victim owed him for repairing a vehicle, prosecutors there said.
