An escaped 17-year-old Louisiana inmate charged with attempted murder has been turned in to authorities by his own parents after three days on the run.
Kimmy Dauntain Jr. escaped from the hands of a Juvenile Justice officer while being escorted to a relative’s funeral in Franklin Friday afternoon, the St. Louis Sheriff’s Office said. Mary Parish.
The runaway’s parents turned him over to Louisiana State Police Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Office of Juvenile Justice.
Dauntain’s sense of freedom was brief, lasting just over 42 hours, before he found himself back in lockup.
“Dauntain has been located and is back in custody,” the sheriff’s office crowed in a Facebook update.
Dauntain was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, simple battery, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, CNN reported.

The short run of dauntains comes after a number of similar incidents in recent weeks.
In Pennsylvania, Shane Pryor, a 17-year-old homicide suspect, took off from a medical transport on January 24 while being taken to a children’s hospital to be treated for a hand injury.
He was not handcuffed when he fled the Emergency Room parking lot.
Pryor, who is suspected of killing a man in 2020 when he was just 14 years old, was arrested five days later after getting off a bus in Philadelphia, police and the US Marshals Service said.

In Arkansas, Noah Roush, 22, and Jatonia Bryant, 23, were found missing 36 hours after their January 22nd jailbreak.
Roush, who faces burglary and murder charges, was arrested following a three-day manhunt. Bryant was arrested on January 29.
