ESPN’s Dick Vitale Announces Another Cancer Diagnosis After Beating Previous Two

Dick Vitale has shared the heartbreaking news of his THIRD cancer diagnosis!

The former head coach, who has called games for ESPN for more than four decades, wrote in a social media statement that he had vocal cord cancer that required nearly two months of radiation treatment.

The veteran sportscaster previously battled – and won – lymphoma and melanoma. He also lost his voice for four months after undergoing surgery to repair precancerous dysplasia and ulcerative lesions found on his vocal cords.

Life doesn’t seem to be going well for Vitale, who told his 948k followers about his latest health issue early Thursday morning. The ESPN college basketball analyst has attached a screenshot of his statement with the caption:

“This is an update on my meeting today with Dr ZEITELS. Although I am disappointed with the pathology report, I plan to win this battle as I did against Melanoma & Lymphoma!”

In the attached announcement, the 84-year-old man write that he had been diagnosed with umbilical cord cancer, resulting in him undergoing six weeks of radiation to treat the disease. After stating that the surgery was unexpected, she said her doctor informed her that the condition has a “very high cure rate.”

The “Living a Dream” author declared his desire to “fight like hell” so he can return to ESPN when the college basketball season officially begins in the fall. Fortunately, his doctor believes the plan is “totally possible,” as he adds that he’s been “overwhelmed by the tweets, texts, notes, and prayers” from those concerned.

He later recalled “asking everyone to help in the fight against cancer” during the 30th annual ESPYs, which were held around this time last year. Concluding the announcement, Vitale thanked his family and the ESPN crew for their “outstanding support, and deeply appreciates the outstanding team of physicians whose dedication has positively impacted so many lives.”

Quoting the tweet, a fan tell Seton Hall University graduate receiver that he has proven “how strong” he is and that he “will beat this too.” Second person tweeted, “Sah is one of the nicer people you’ll ever meet, and his love for the ball is genuine. Hurry up and get back to work, sir.”

“I wish you success in another challenge. You have a lot of cheerleaders,” a third Twitter user deliveredas the fourth repeated, “All prayers for you Dickie V! We are all in your corner. You will get through this!”

The fifth person encouraged, “Give the cancer hell, Dickie. We need our #1 PTP’er to bring back the W! ?,” and the sixth sounded, “You brought light and joy to life to many of us. You are a warrior in the fight against cancer. We will continue to be your prayer warriors as you fight this battle.”

College basketball fans have also surrounded Vitale with their love in 2021 when he shared two cancer diagnoses within two months. At the time, The Blast reported that he was scheduled to undergo chemotherapy and receive steroids for six months.

The father of two has also vowed to “fight hard” against the disease and return to television screens stronger than ever. Vitale’s doctors declared him “cancer free” in August 2022.

Regarding her speech during last year’s ESPY Awards, PEOPLE emphasized that he was successful while accepting the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, presented to him by “Mad Men” star John Hamm.

Although he spent much of his acceptance speech praising the Jimmy V Foundation, which funds research to find a cure for cancer, he said at one point that “no child or child should have to undergo chemo or radiation.” Later, the star of a ’90s Taco Bell TV commercial asserted:
