The remains found at a Georgia garbage facility last week have been identified as those of a toddler who went missing earlier this month – and the child’s father is now facing murder charges.
The remains of two-year-old J’Asiah Deon Mitchell were officially identified by the Fulton County medical examiner on Thursday, a week after they were found at the East Point Transfer Station, FOX 5 reported.
Investigators obtained a warrant to indict the boy’s father, 23-year-old Artavious North, who had previously reported the boy as abducted.
He faces charges of murder, felony murder, first-degree cruelty to a child, and concealing a death, the East Point Police Department told The Post Friday
However, he had not been formally charged or appeared in court as of Friday afternoon, the statement said.
Other suspects could also face charges, according to 11Alive.

“Evil,” J’Asiah’s distraught mother, Asia Mitchell, wrote on Facebook Thursday afternoon along with a reposted news update about North’s accusations.
“You took my world away from me. Now God will turn you upside down,” he vowed in another heartbreaking post featuring a video of him and J’Asiah laughing together.
Mitchell and North were not in a relationship when J’Asiah was charged with murder, Channel 2 Action News previously reported.

J’Asiah was on tour with Utara when she was first reported missing on August 16.
At the time, North claimed that her son was abducted when armed kidnappers cut her off at a red light just before midnight.
However, within a day, authorities announced that they believed North had fabricated the story.

The father was later arrested and charged with making false statements, although he was already in custody on separate charges at the time, Channel 2 Action News reported.
When the child’s body was found in a garbage facility near North’s home last week, police named the young father as a person of interest.
“I’ll tell you, some of the [North’s] family members who were coming had tried to talk to him, and they pleaded with him, ‘Tell the truth,’” East Point Police Chief Shawn Buchanan told Channel 2 at the time.

As of Friday afternoon, it was not known if the child’s cause of death had been determined.
