Ex-WH adviser Steve Bannon believes George Santos expulsion could fuel GOP ‘civil war’

Steve Bannon believes George Santos’ removal from Congress could spark a GOP “civil war.”

The former White House adviser said about it on the War Room podcast Saturday that he thinks former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, (R-Calif.) and other anti-Trump Republicans orchestrated Santos’ political death.

“This is McCarthy to mess with MAGA,” Bannon said. “This is something that needs to be pushed” current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Santos “isn’t the guy you want to defend,” Bannon acknowledged, but he argued the ouster was far bigger than the Long Island Republican lying.

“This is 100% McCarthy and his aides trying to make our job harder and take the majority,” the former Trump associate said. “… If they want a civil war, you get one.”

With Santos’ seat now unfilled, Republicans hold a slim 221-213 majority in the US House of Representatives.

Santos (R-NY) became the sixth member ever to be expelled from the House on Friday, a little more than a year after he won election despite his extensive personal and professional history, lying about his campaign finances and defrauding donors.

The former representative from New York’s 3rd Congressional District also faces 23 federal charges for allegedly laundering his campaign money and defrauding donors. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
