The flowing blonde locks and rippling muscles were unchanged.
Fabio still remains the “King of Romance” – the soft core romance cover boy of the swinging 80s and 90s.
But by the age of 65, he broke his lifelong public silence on politics because, he believed, he must warn of the “dark state of the Union” and the rising tide of antisemitism.
It is the fallout from the October 7 Hama massacre in Israel that has prompted him to speak out strongly — and in particular to criticize the Hollywood machine for failing to be a voice against antisemitism.
Speaking exclusively to The Post, he revealed his own family’s ties to the evils of Nazi Germany and said he fears the US, of which he became a citizen in 2016, is greatly weakened under President Biden.
“I am so angry at what is happening in America today!” he said, calling Biden, “The worst president by far in the history of the United States.”

Fabio told The Post that he watched the Oct. 7 attack unfold on Israeli television, watching live via satellite at his home in California with an Israeli friend.
“I saw firsthand what was happening,” said Fabio. “It was unbelievable and shocking and horrifying. I was angry because I thought, ‘Here we go again… here we go again.’
“They NEVER, EVER want peace. They want all Jews dead. They want to destroy Israel.
“These are innocent people slaughtered on Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest,” Fabio said, referring to the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

“Hamas kills babies, they use human shields, and they kill Americans, take hostages, and rape women. What should the Jews do?
“If Canada or Mexico would do something like that to the United States. You know what the United States will do. My God, we’re going to nuke them!”
He called his old manager, Eric Ashenberg, who is Jewish and has relatives in Israel.

But Ashenberg’s phone was switched off, and Fabio left a message. Fortunately, Ashenberg told The Post, his Israeli family was safe from Hamas.
But now two of his brother’s grandchildren and three of his nieces have been called to serve.
For Fabio, the Hamas terror attack brought back chilling thoughts of what the Nazis had done to his maternal grandfather, Enrico Carnicelli.

Carnicelli, a Catholic, was outspoken about life under Italy’s fascist dictator Benito Mussolini during the Second World War, and then after his fall, about the Nazi occupation.
“My grandparents and my mother lived in Milan under the fascists, and the Nazis were there – they were everywhere,” Fabio recounts.
“At that time in Italy with the fascists and Hitler, you couldn’t speak against the party, and my grandfather was very vocal.
“One night when my mother, my grandfather, and my grandmother were having dinner, the Nazis came in and they beat my grandfather and they took him away in front of my mother and his wife.”

According to Fabio, his family only knows that “my grandfather was put on a train by the Nazis – and, of course, he never came back, and my mother never, ever forgot. She was completely paralyzed by what happened.”
Enrico is in his mid-30s. His wife, Innes Carnicelli, Fabio’s grandmother, a housewife, was very sad.
Fabio was born in March 1959, long after World War II, but the long shadow of evil haunted his childhood.
Her grandmother, who died when she was 13, would tell the family that her husband had been taken to Auschwitz, the Nazi death camp, where six million Jews were exterminated.

Although it is impossible to confirm where his grandfather ultimately died, his murder at the hands of the Nazis has given Fabio a lifelong sense of solidarity with the Jewish people — and an awareness of the deep impact the October 7 attacks will have on those affected.
Enrico’s only child, Fabio’s mother, Flora Carnicelli, flourished after the war, won the Miss Milan beauty contest, but rarely spoke about her father “because it was too emotional.”
“You cannot say the words ‘fascism’ and ‘Nazi’ in front of my mother. He will rage. He was traumatized for the rest of his life. My God, when he was 80 years old, he was still crying and shaking.”

“The Jews have been sacrificial lambs for five thousand years,” insists Fabio, who studies history. “They have been killed and persecuted. There is no one in the world who experienced such a massacre (Holocaust) like the Jews.”
Fabio’s mother died in 2018 when she was in her 90s.
He has had “severe” Alzheimer’s for nearly a decade.
His father, Saura Lanzoni, died in the mid-90s, five years ago.
Saura Lanzoni is a successful Milanese businessman and mechanical engineer who owns a firm, Flowlink, that makes industrial conveyor systems for other factories.

Saura and Flora have three children, Fabio is the middle child.
His brother, Walter, would run the family business with their father.
He was once described in a newspaper profile as opposite Fabio — “short and bald.” (Now retired in Italy, he claims he is not bald, but always shaves his head.)
Fabio’s younger sister, Cristina, tragically died of ovarian cancer in 2013.
Fabio had brought her from her home in Italy to Houston for treatment and stayed with her at her bedside until she died.
In Italy, Fabio graduated from high school and later served in the Italian army where mandatory service was required, and was trained as a parachute commando.
The model’s Italian national service saw her complete parachute commando training in the country’s army. It was when the 6-foot-3 man arrived in America in 1980 at the age of 21 and almost immediately landed a top modeling job for the GAP clothing line, then he hit it big as the model of a $150,000-per-cover romance novel that changed his life .
“You can achieve anything here,” he declared; success made Fabio a millionaire, and his father’s prediction that he would return with his tail between his legs never came true.
Having turned romance covers into a Hollywood career — including roles in “Zoolander,” “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and TV’s “America’s Next Top Model” — she feels bad that other Hollywood stars aren’t ready to speak out.
However, he believes that the country’s political leadership is the heart of the problem.

Fabio said he was “crazy” about Biden, whose presidency is “destroying the country, who spends our money like drunken sailors, and who will lead us into a big war. Because of Biden, the world sees that we are now at the weakest point in history US.”
He is angry about the southern border, and believes that among the illegal border crossings are “terrorists planning more attacks.”
“It’s like a Trojan horse story, and I guarantee we’ll be next. Israel is the little devil and America is the big devil,” he said.

Fabio hates to say it, but he believes the country’s future is “very dark because we have a president who doesn’t know what planet he is on.”
“I compare him to Nero, who played around while Rome burned. The same goes for Biden.
“This guy doesn’t know what’s going on.”
