‘Fake’ Mar-a-Lago sale notice sets tongues wagging after Trump surrender

Real estate watchers did a double take after former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate was listed for sale on Zillow as he fought four separate lawsuits, but sources told The Post the notices were false.

“Someone put a fake thing on Zillow,” said one.

“Fake news,” said another. “Someone planted that, probably put up a fake listing.”

Hours after Trump was booked in Georgia on charges that he illegally tried to overturn the Peach State’s 2020 election results, real estate experts noted that a listing for a sprawling Palm Beach resort showed it was “sold” on Aug. 4 for $422,000,000. .

Although the ranch doesn’t appear on Zillow under the name “Mar-a-Lago,” its address at 1100 South Ocean Boulevard matches Trump’s 58-bedroom, 33-bathroom beachfront property.

The date of the alleged sale also comes a day after the 77-year-old was arraigned in Washington, DC, on federal charges that he illegally tried to stay in power after losing to former Vice President Joe Biden.

“Mar-a-Lago is absolutely not for sale and never will be,” the former president’s son Eric told The Post. “These rumors are completely false.”

By midday Friday, all references to the Aug. 4 “sale” had disappeared from the Zillow listing, and the property was listed as “Off the Market.”

The SunBiz website — the brand name for the Florida Division of Corporations where local businesses are required to register — indicates that the Palm Beach resort is currently owned by Mar-a-Lago Inc., whose owner and registered agent is Donald Trump Jr.

Annual reports filed through 2022 show the club is run by the Trump Organization, which lists the younger Donald Trump as president, director and chairman, among other titles. The last time Trump himself appeared as the director of the Trump Org at Mar-a-Lago’s annual report was in 2016.

“I woke up this morning to numerous media reports claiming that my father had transferred ownership of Mar-A-Lago to me, and as much as anyone would like to be gifted with one of the most beautiful properties in the entire world, it’s nothing more than a sum total. and complete fake news,” Trump Jr. told The Post on Friday. “A lot of the media should be ashamed of themselves for publishing such fake stories, but we all know that most of them will not withdraw their reports because they have no shame. SAD!”

Trump has an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion, according to Forbes. However, his critics have long suspected he was far more fluid than that figure.

When Trump surrendered to Georgia authorities on Thursday night, for example, he appointed a local company to cover the cost of his $200,000 bond.

Additionally, even the former president’s campaign has touted the amount it raised after Trump was indicted in Manhattan on charges of falsifying business records ($10 million in five days) and by special counsel Jack Smith on charges of hiding national security documents at Mar-a-Lago ($6.6 million in six days), it’s less well received in the wake of the two latest allegations — despite peddling shirts, mugs and koozies featuring the 45th president’s mugshot.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press reported that the rival White House’s political operations have raked in more than $42 million this year alone, with much of the money used to cover legal costs related to the string of legal troubles that have embroiled Trump and him. ally.
