The family’s housekeeper has a degree in art and actually drew an image of Paddington Bear for the family, for which Slare’s husband Dzintars, 53, and children Emanuels, 14, and Elizabete, 12, find pebbles and shells on the beach. The creative artwork shows the beloved bear wearing a blue duffel coat and holding up his red hat while holding a suitcase. A tear, created by a strategically placed clam shell, was placed under his eye.

The group signed their work “Beach4Art” and stayed on the beach for several hours to watch it being carried away by the bound. The mother-of-four said she decided to use Paddington Bear to pay tribute to the late Queen as a thank you for the marmalade sandwich sketch she did with her in June during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Ieva Slare immigrated to the UK from Latvia about a decade ago, and finds the honor even more meaningful because Paddington Bear also arrived in the UK from a foreign country. Ieva, from Bideford, Devon, told the outlet: “We just got back from holiday and we got the sad news, it was a very strange and sad moment. We have lived in the UK for ten years and we are part of the community. We feel very grateful to the government and the country where we can live, work and raise our children. This is our home.”
