Fani Willis, accused of affair with Trump prosecutor, vowed to not date staff in 2020: ‘Certainly inappropriate’

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, accused of having an affair with the special prosecutor she hired to bring charges against former President Donald Trump in the Georgia election meddling case, promised in a 2020 interview that she would not sleep with her staff.

Willis was criticized for allegedly having an affair with Nathan Wade, whom he appointed as special prosecutor in a high-profile case in November 2021 at a high salary – the day before he filed for divorce from his wife.

“I certainly would not choose to meet with the people who work under me,” Willis said during an April 2020 appearance on “The Patricia Crayton Show” while campaigning for district attorney.

“We’re at a place in society where things happen in people’s relationships — husbands and wives sometimes, there’s extramarital affairs. I don’t think that’s what the community is concerned about. Although there may be a moral violation in that,” he continued.

“I think what people are really concerned about is if you choose to have an inappropriate relationship with an employee,” he continued.

“There’s nothing I can say about it other than it’s disturbing, it’s just not appropriate for the No. 1 law enforcement officer in the state, and it really saddens me,” he said.

Willis added it would be “very unfortunate if the taxpayers of this community have to pay for any of these lawsuits.”

Willis and Wade were first accused of having an “improper” relationship in a motion filed last week by Michael Roman, one of 18 Trump co-defendants in the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Practices Act (RICO) investigation of Willis.

Roman’s filing accuses Wade — a private attorney with Atlanta-based Wade & Campbell — of using a portion of the nearly $654,000 in legal fees he was paid by the DA’s Office to take Willis on lavish trips.

He argued the criminal charges should be dismissed against him because Willis “violated laws governing the use of public money, had an irremediable conflict of interest, and violated their oath of office under the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct.”

Willis also allegedly hired Wade even though he was not qualified or experienced in handling criminal matters.

Wade’s ex-wife, Joycelyn Wade, claimed in a Cobb County Superior Court filing Friday that she tried to get their divorce records sealed immediately after she was hired by Willis’ office to keep the breakup a secret.

She claims that her ex-husband never told her that he was working for Willis on the Trump case — or the exorbitant amount of money he was making from the show. He said he was left with “little means of financial support” while joining the DA on trips to California, Florida and the Caribbean.

On Thursday, attorneys for Willis filed a motion to remove her from sitting for the Jan. 23 deposition in Wade’s divorce case, claiming she won’t be able to provide relevant testimony since their marriage essentially ended in 2017, when Jocylyn allegedly cheated on Nathan.

Jocylyn’s legal team responded by saying that Willis’ allegations of an affair were false, and argued that she “suffered a deep sense of disconnection in her marriage” due to a previous infidelity incident by Nathan Wade.

Sources tell The Post the pair have been working together since at least 2019.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners also said Friday it has launched an investigation into whether Willis misused county funds and “accepted valuable gifts and personal benefits” from Wade. The Atlanta DA has until February 2nd to respond.

Meanwhile, Wade is back in court today for a hearing on Georgia’s election meddling case.
