Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis fired back at Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Thursday over his investigation into Trump’s election meddling.
Late last month, Jordan (R-Oh.) demanded a tranche of documents detailing communications between Willis and federal officials about former President Donald Trump, arguing his case could interfere in the 2024 election.
But Willis, a Democrat, chimed in, admonishing in his response Thursday that “it’s clear that you have no basic understanding of the law.”
Notably, Jordan did not take the bar exam despite graduating from law school.
“Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is blatantly unconstitutional,” Willis wrote in a nine-page letter to Jordan.
“There is absolutely no support for Congress allegedly second-guessing or somehow overseeing ongoing Georgia criminal investigations and prosecutions.”

He emphasized that “violation of Georgian sovereignty is offensive and will not happen.”
Willis dropped 41 counts against Trump and 18 of his associates last month for allegedly meddling in the 2020 Georgia election, including racketeering charges against each of them.
Trump specifically faces 13 charges and has already pleaded not guilty, vehemently denying any wrongdoing.
Willis has revealed several examples of federal funding for programs that his office has taken advantage of, which is an important data set that Jordan is looking for.

Instead of providing all the materials Jordan requested, she went through his letter piece by piece with his answers and gave him examples of racial threats he had experienced.
“Since you have a personal interest in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, you should consider directing the USDOJ to investigate the racial threats that have come to my staff and me because of this investigation,” he wrote.
Jordan has pursued a similar strategy against other prosecutors who have targeted Trump. Earlier this year, he subpoenaed Mark Pomerantz, a former attorney in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.
Bragg, who filed a 34-count indictment against Trump for an alleged hush money scheme that was uncovered in April, sued him in response.

On Thursday, Jordan sent a letter to Special Counsel Jack Smith informing him of his congressional investigation into alleged prosecutorial misconduct by Jay Bratt, one of Smith’s top lawyers.
In addition to chairing the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan also chairs the Subcommittee on Federal Government Armaments.
A spokesman for the Judiciary Committee did not immediately return a request for comment.
Trump faces 91 total criminal charges spanning four separate indictments that could result in up to 700 years in prison.
He remains a formidable frontrunner in the 2024 GOP race.
