Drake is becoming more and more popular online after an old clip of him talking trash about Toronto resurfaced on social media.
Drake Thinks Toronto Slang Is ‘Ignorant’

The rapper before being a rapper was touring in his Degrassi High days and was offered more TV roles including a reality show on Nickelodeon’s N subsite called My Best Friends Date where Drake who went by Aubrey Graham at the time went on double dates with friends.
The conversation that happened was a far cry from the love that Drake is showing 6ix now. When asked by one of the women if Canada, more specifically Toronto has any words that are “funky” and “Weird”, Drake referred to the popular way Torontonians themselves refer to it.
“Boys like you” said Drake claiming “boys at school” used the term.
He explains that instead of saying “what you do”, Torontonians will use the slang term instead. He even goes so far as to give examples and use them in sentences like a real prep school kid.
“So, guys like you are going to go there,” Drake said with a bit more elaborate hand gestures that we see from him today. One of the girls attributed it to age but Drake said no. “No it’s not. Really ignorant.”
Drake Now Uses ‘Man Dem’ Regularly
At the time, the rapper was in his teens and grew up going to prep school and in a household where his black father wasn’t the primary caretaker, we can see why he wouldn’t recognize a term that comes from a Jamaican dialect and how it’s actually supposed to be used.
We salute a chick who tried to explain the term but no matter, you know followers had to comment on the rapper and this resurfaced clip.
“Drake someone different every 6 months…” remarked one follower. “That guy is an actor portraying a rapper,” suggested many followers of the trend in one way or another.
“Respect…at the same time he was just put in a wheelchair ???,” followed by a joke about the fate of Drake’s Degrassi character Jimmy who was shot and paralyzed.
“When he’s done rapping, I think he’ll go back to his real self and admit it’s acting! I’m actually pretty sure that’s what he’s going to do!?”
Drake Successfully Rebranded

Some followers of the post pointed out that this was rebranding at best since Drake seemed to want nothing to do with the 6ix slang. “Drake’s rebranding as a black man was one of the greatest achievements of the 2000s.”
While another follower showed the specifics of the rebranding. “Chile, he can tell ACTING like a villain will lead him to RICHES.??.”
Another follower pointed out that Drake represents 6ix but his experience may be largely outside of core GTA. “????? You all know Drake is a prep school kid …”
