“Come & Get It” singer Gomez didn’t expect the backlash she received after sharing comments about the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

The pop diva has now decided to take a break from social media, most likely due to the harsh criticism she has received over the past few days.

Gomez wrote in her Instagram story, “I’m taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I do not support any of the things that happened.”

The comments came after he made a post expressing how “heartbroken” he was by the Israel-Hamas conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands.

“I hope you lose all your followers. I don’t like all your pictures… what’s the point of speaking up if you don’t want to use them… not that you sing beautifully,” commented a fourth fan.

Amidst the criticism, some fans chose to defend Gomez, stating that she is human and can choose to take a break from social media if she wants to.

“People need to realize that he’s human too… I’m sorry but you’re paying attention to the wrong thing!!! what’s wrong with [you] all? Have you seen the video? CHILDREN ARE OUT OF THEIR BRAINS!!!! I’m sorry, but I’m also going to take a break from social media.”

They continued, “This is not about supporting this or that innocent people are being killed on both sides. It doesn’t matter what he says [was] will always be criticized, judged or canceled. Leave him omg.”

Despite being the most followed woman on Instagram, Gomez takes frequent breaks from the app for her mental health.

During the interview with Dazed in 2020, Gomez was asked if she would ditch Instagram if she could at the “press of a button.”

Gomez said, “Oh my gosh! I think I’m going to have a lot of people who don’t like me for saying yes. If I could find a balanced and happy medium that would be great, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t destroy some of my generation, their identity.”

He added, “What I do now is just go through it when I feel like I need to, and then I’ll just log out, I won’t take the time to explore or look at anything else.”

The “Slow Down” singer also shared how she deals with online criticism, stating that she doesn’t “read” the comments.

“I didn’t read anything, I didn’t read anything,” said Gomez. “That was quite difficult because I was used to reading everything for a long time. But I don’t, and I mean it.”
