Fans have got their tongues wagging with Kelly Rowland’s open support of Chris Brown.
The American Music Awards were easily the highlight of this past weekend. In its 50th edition, the event was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Wayne Brady hosting the show.
Although the show went well, there was outrage from fans when Brown was announced as the winner for one category. The Destiny’s Child alum, who presented the award, publicly expressed her support for Brown, and many fans had something to say about it.

In the clip that went viral, Rowland took the stage to present the award for Favorite Male R&B Artist. Emerging as the winner of that category was Brown. However, he was not at the location. When the “Brown Eyes” singer said her name, boos erupted from the audience.
While giving an acceptance speech on Brown’s behalf, the “Bootylicious” singer appeared to rebuke the audience for making fun of Brown. “Excuse me, take a break,” Rowland said. He later went on to appreciate Brown’s craft and contribution to the R&B genre.
“I want to tell Chris, ‘Thank you so much for making great R&B music,’ and I want to tell him, ‘Thank you for being an amazing performer,’” Rowland said. “I will take this award, bring it to you. I love you.”

Twitter users had a field day showing Rowland’s clear support for the dancer. Some users thought that the singer did not deserve the award. One user stated this, write“What Chris brown is doing is still winning awards, and why Kelly Rowland is up there thanking you deeply.”

However, some other observers were on the opposite side, judging the “Emotion” singer for supporting Brown. Chris Brown Reveals That The AMAs Canceled His MJ Tribute Performance
Rowland’s show of love for the 33-year-old artist comes days after she revealed that the AMAs canceled her performance. According to reports, the R&B star posted a clip showing her training for the event.

In the video, the singer is seen practicing some Michael Jackson-inspired moves for iconic songs like “Beat It” and “Billie Jean.” The songwriter captioned the update, “U SERIOUS?” He followed up in a later comment, writing … “I WAS GOING TO be the show ama, but they canceled me for some unknown reason.”
There has been ongoing speculation as to why the show was canceled – with some citing Brown’s history of abuse, particularly with Rihanna as the reason – but the AMAs have yet to offer a public reason.
Normani Gets Fired For Starring In Chris Brown’s Music Video
This is not the first time artists have been criticized for their association with the “Fine China” singer. In June, we reported that Normani was criticized for appearing as a video vixen for Brown’s song “Warm Embrace.” The video shows the two being intimate, as there is a scene where they both go into the water, with Normani straddling Brown’s knee.
While some followers were impressed with Normani’s dancing skills, others thought that she should not be associated with the rapper, given her past controversial issues.
“I don’t know why new R&B girls feel the need to collaborate with him,” one fan said in a tweet, which went viral and has been retweeted nearly 2,000 times. “Ella Mai, HE, Chlöe, now Normani. It’s disappointing. I can’t say I understand because he has repeated his behavior towards women, kicked black women out of the club he was in and has been doing the same song since 2012.”
Fans will remember that the actor has a long list of accusers, including famous singer Rihanna and his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
